Role Description: Stok seeks an Associate Director to serve as embedded technical leader within a key strategic client organization. This role requires exceptional technical expertise combined with diplomatic navigation of complex internal stakeholder dynamics. The position demands autonomous problem-solving capabilities and strategic thinking to develop commissioning solutions within ambiguous client environments.

Responsibilities:

Embedded Technical Leadership

  • Serve as on-site technical authority for all commissioning activities within client organization
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies aligned with client's operational constraints and strategic objectives
  • Provide real-time technical guidance and decision support to client teams during project execution
  • Maintain comprehensive understanding of client's technical systems, processes, and organizational structure

Stakeholder Management & Navigation

  • Build and maintain relationships across multiple client departments and hierarchical levels
  • Navigate competing priorities and conflicting objectives between internal client stakeholders
  • Facilitate consensus-building among diverse technical and non-technical audiences
  • Translate technical requirements into business language for executive-level client communications

Solution Development & Innovation

  • Design commissioning approaches for undefined or novel technical challenges
  • Develop custom methodologies and processes specific to client's unique operational environment
  • Identify optimization opportunities within existing client systems and workflows
  • Create documentation and training materials for client team knowledge transfer

Strategic Partnership Management

  • Function as primary Stok representative within client organization
  • Align commissioning deliverables with client's broader sustainability and performance goals
  • Identify expansion opportunities for additional Stok services within client ecosystem
  • Manage contract performance and client satisfaction metrics independently

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years commissioning experience with demonstrated expertise in complex building systems
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision in ambiguous environments
  • Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills with experience managing difficult stakeholder relationships
  • Track record of developing innovative solutions for unique technical challenges
  • Professional engineering license required; advanced project management certification preferred

Stok will not require team members to be in an office, but our office locations are open for them to collaborate.  This is a hybrid role with working onsite at client locations in the Bay Area. This role’s preferred location is San Francisco.

COMPENSATION RANGE: $125,000 -  $207,000  based on market location and experience.

Compensation is determined by relevant years of experience and market location
