At Nium, we’re revolutionising the global payments industry — and data is at the heart of it. We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Data Engineer to join our Malta-based Data Engineering team.
This is more than just a technical role: you’ll help shape the future of our data platform as we migrate from on-premises systems to AWS cloud. You’ll be hands-on with modern tools like Airflow, Redshift, Glue, dbt, and Kafka, working closely with product, engineering, and business teams to deliver high-quality, scalable data solutions that power real-world payments.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and optimise scalable data pipelines and workflows with Airflow, Redshift, Glue, and dbt.
  • Ingest, transform and deliver high-volume data from diverse sources, including MySQL and real-time data streams from Kafka.
  • Design and maintain performant data models in Redshift and optimise SQL queries to enable high-performance analytics and reporting.
  • Shape the cloud migration journey and bring new ideas to evolve our data architecture.
  • Collaborate across teams to translate business needs into reliable technical solutions.
  • Drive data quality, reliability, and security as core principles.
  • Support and improve data solutions running in a critical payments environment.
  • Continuously learn, share knowledge, and raise the bar for best practices.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering or similar roles.
  • Expert in SQL, with strong skills in query optimisation, complex transformations, and data modelling in Redshift.
  • Strong Python skills for data engineering tasks.
  • Hands-on with AWS services (Redshift, Lambda, Glue, S3, etc.) and Airflow orchestration.
  • Familiarity with modern transformation practicessuch as dbt.
  • A collaborative mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and eagerness to take initiative and ownership.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience leading or contributing to large-scale cloud migrations.
  • Knowledge of real-time streaming with Kafka.
  • Exposure to CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code for data pipelines.
  • Passion for exploring AI/ML applications in modern data platforms.
  • Understanding of the payments ecosystem or fintech data challenges.
