Macquarie University is seeking a visionary, values-driven leader for the newly created position of Director, Student Integrity and Compliance. This senior role sits at the heart of our commitment to delivering transformational education for students, academic excellence, and institutional accountability.
About The Role
As Director, you will lead transformative, university-wide initiatives that embed academic integrity, student safety, and compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements. Your work will shape policies, culture, and practice across the University, ensuring students thrive in an environment that is inclusive, safe, and ethically grounded.
This position plays a critical role in delivering on the Macquarie Advantage Education Strategy, with responsibility for student academic integrity, complaints, appeals, and misconduct, as well as student safety and culture initiatives. You will oversee compliance with the Higher Education Support Act 2003, governance of the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) and the University’s independent student-led organisation, chair key advisory and working groups, and provide strategic support to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Dean of Students).
Key Responsibilities
Working with and through the Managers and their teams within this portfolio, the Director will have institutional oversight of:
- Student Academic Integrity – Lead a comprehensive, educative integrity strategy, embedding best-practice approaches and leveraging digital technologies to enhance assessment security.
- Complaints, Appeals & Misconduct (CAM) – Oversee fair, timely, and educative student conduct and appeals processes, ensuring compliance with national frameworks.
- Student Safety & Culture – Develop and implement a whole-of-university safety and culture strategy, collaborating with faculties, services, and external partners.
- Operations & Governance – Lead the University’s complaints and reporting systems, manage team budgets and SSAF allocation, prepare reports for governance bodies, and support regulatory compliance (HESA, TEQSA, Ombudsman).
About You (Selection Criteria)
You are an experienced higher education leader with a track record of delivering and embedding change and influencing culture. You bring:
- A higher degree qualification (eg: law, business or another related discipline) and significant leadership experience in higher education is required.
- Proven experience managing Student Services and Amenities Funding (SSAF) initiatives, compliance and government reporting.
- Experience in establishing and/or overseeing an independent student led organisation.
- Experience managing student safety and culture.
- Expertise in applying an educative approach to integrity and assessment security, including digital enablement.
- Strong knowledge of national legal and regulatory frameworks (HESA, TEQSA, Ombudsman), regulations and obligations.
- Experience leading the development and implementation of student policies and procedures.
- Proven success in student academic integrity, student conduct, appeals and complaints.
- Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams and lead cross-institutional collaboration.
- A commitment to inclusive, student-centred approaches that promote respect, safety, and wellbeing.
