ABS Project Portfolio Manager

This role is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of multiple, concurrent projects within a strategically aligned portfolio. The Portfolio Project Manager provides structured delivery leadership while supervising project managers and ensuring delivery excellence across the programme landscape. Acting as a central coordination point, the role combines tactical oversight and strategic alignment with exemplary stakeholder engagement to safeguard project outcomes and portfolio integrity.

Portfolio Delivery & Oversight 

• Lead the end-to-end execution of multiple simultaneous projects, ensuring strategic alignment and timely delivery 
• Oversee and guide project managers, ensuring consistency in governance, planning, execution, and reporting 
• Manage interdependencies and resource allocation across delivery streams within the portfolio 
• Maintain central oversight of performance metrics, milestones, risks, and delivery status across projects 
• Ensure integration of new initiatives into the existing portfolio framework with minimal disruption 

Governance & Quality Assurance 

• Champion delivery standards, project governance frameworks, and gated review processes 
• Conduct regular health checks across the portfolio and escalate risks or delivery concerns with recommendations 
• Promote best practice in project management across the portfolio through coaching and mentorship 
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and internal assurance requirements 

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting 

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with business units, technology teams, and senior leadership 
• Provide regular structured communications on project status, risks, decisions, and strategic implications 
• Act as the key liaison for stakeholder queries and portfolio-level governance forums 
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting that supports decision-making and strategic planning 

Team Leadership & Capability Development 

• Supervise and develop project managers and supporting delivery resources 
• Set clear objectives, assess performance, and promote a culture of continuous improvement 
• Align team capacity to delivery demands, maintaining flexibility for dynamic priorities 

Financial Management & Commercial Liaison 

• Work closely with Finance and Procurement to manage project budgets and financial forecasts 
• Ensure expenditure aligns with project scope, delivery timelines, and audit requirements

​​What We Need From You​ 

• MSP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, PgMP, or equivalent certifications 
• Demonstrable experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously 
• Strong team leadership and line management experience, ideally within regulated environments 
• Expertise in stakeholder engagement, communication strategies, and executive reporting 
• Proficiency in project portfolio tools (e.g. Planview, MS Project, Jira, Power BI) 
• Background in insurance, reinsurance, or financial services preferred
