Job Description

The Red Gate Group is seeking a Mid-Level Cloud Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this role, you will manage, administer, and enhance secure cloud environments while driving continuous improvement and rapid problem resolution. You’ll apply your technical expertise to develop and implement scalable solutions, supporting mission-critical operations across hybrid and multi-tenant environments. This position offers the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively in an Agile setting while directly contributing to national security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure environments and resources, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and databases.
  • Support hybrid cloud environments and ensure seamless integration across systems.
  • Apply infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as ARM templates or Terraform to build and automate secure, repeatable deployments.
  • Administer Linux-based systems and develop Bash scripts for process automation.
  • Implement and manage Azure networking, including subnets, virtual networks, and security groups.
  • Collaborate within an Agile team environment, using tools such as Jira and Confluence for tracking and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues rapidly, ensuring performance, reliability, and security standards are met.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers when required.
  • DoD 8570 Compliant certification (Security+ or CISSP) prior to starting.
  • 5+ years of experience deploying and maintaining Azure environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services (compute, networking, storage, databases).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools (ARM templates, Terraform).
  • Proficiency with Linux administration and Bash scripting.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking concepts (VNETs, subnets, NSGs).

Qualifications

  • Active Ts/Sci Clearance.

  • Ability to thrive in an Agile, team-based environment.
  • Experience managing hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience developing software with Python, Go, or Java.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based applications.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Azure Active Directory (AAD).
  • Experience managing multi-tenant environments across DoD networks.
  • Experience automating Azure processes with PowerShell or Azure CLI.

Desired Qualifications

  • Background in software or systems architecture.
  • Azure Engineering or Architecting certification.
  • Experience collaborating with a Cloud Security Service Provider (CSSP).
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
