DoD Clearance: SecretWe are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our Electro-mechanical Interface Devices (EMIDS) team within the Supplier Designed Equipment (SDE) Engineering organization, based onsite in Windsor Locks, CT.
In this role, you will play a key part in the design and development of EMIDS for Engine Control Systems (ECS). These critical components serve as the physical interface between electronic controls and mechanical systems and your work will directly impact system performance, reliability, and innovation.
You’ll collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and project managers, leading technical efforts in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. From concept to production, you will be responsible for driving the engineering process and delivering high-quality electromechanical solutions that meet complex technical requirements.

What You Will Do
- Lead EMIDS design projects from requirements development through production, using Engineering Standard Work.
- Manage project scope, including requirements and change requests, to meet commitments.
- Develop and maintain schedules with clear dependencies, deliverables, and critical paths.
- Use Earned Value (EV) methods to manage project budget and timeline.
- Identify and resolve risks and opportunities through proactive ownership.
- Communicate clearly and confidently with peers and leadership.
- Oversee hardware configuration throughout the development process.
- Develop and review system concepts and design requirements.
- Lead investigations of issues from service or engine testing.
- Research and select electromechanical devices for Collins applications.
- Review interface documents and supplier manufacturing drawings.
- Create and execute development test procedures and reports.
- Analyze and report test results.
- Ensure process adherence to minimize engineering risks.
- Interpret and mark up drawings; manage release process.
- Create schedules and budgets for new business proposals.
- Apply CORE tools for effective RCCA.
- Assess supplier technical capabilities.
- Support cost, weight, and process improvement initiatives.
- Align supplier technology readiness with Collins control systems strategy.
- Mentor junior engineers in best practices and Standard Work.
- Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Qualifications We Prefer
- Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
- Familiarity with CORE tools and processes for continuous improvement and Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA).
- Working knowledge of magnetics, electronics, instrumentation, motion control, servomechanisms, sensors, and effectors.
- Experience with 3D design tools, engineering materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams across departments and business units.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
