We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to oversee the development and deployment of novel applications, leveraging generative AI models. You'll have the unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI research before it reaches the mainstream, translating innovations into market-leading solutions that solve real problems for legal professionals.
 

This role focuses on rapidly developing new features, productionizing innovation beyond POCs, and working across partner teams to deliver solutions and maximize impact for Thomson Reuters' Gen AI products. You'll build products from 0-to-1 that transform how lawyers practice law globally.
 

You will be instrumental in translating cutting-edge AI research into real-world products and demonstrating the capabilities of the latest generation models. We are looking for a manager with a strong track record of building and shipping software, and leading engineering teams, ideally with some experience in early-stage environments, where you may have contributed to scaling products from initial concept to production.
 

The ideal candidate will be motivated by the opportunity to drive product & business impact, develop strong relationships with research and product development teams, and lead breakthrough innovations with immediate market impact. You will oversee the full software development lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and innovative software solutions in the Generative AI space. This leadership role requires deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong communication skills to align software development with organizational goals while fostering innovation at every level.
 

About The Role

In this opportunity as Senior Director, CoCounsel Innovation & Custom Delivery, you will:
 

  • Lead a team in the design and development of scalable software applications leveraging generative AI models
  • Guide the team in rapidly developing new features and iterating based on evaluation results
  • Collaborate with researchers and product managers to translate research advancements into tangible product features
  • Oversee the optimization of software performance and ensure the reliability of deployed applications
  • Oversee the success of forward-deployed engineering engagements, building custom solutions that meet user requirements
  • Champion the development of best practices for building and deploying generative AI applications
  • Lead the architecture and development of new products and features from 0 to 1
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
  • Partner with the Product Manager team to qualify and size new project opportunities
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and trends, particularly in Generative AI and cloud-native architectures 

About You

You're a fit for the role of Senior Director, CoCounsel Innovation & Custom Delivery if your background includes:
 

  • Proven experience in building high-quality AI-powered applications in fast-paced startup environments
  • Deep expertise in micro frontend architecture, modern web technologies, and scalable cloud platforms
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to grow and manage high-performing engineering teams
  • A track record of delivering high-impact software solutions while balancing speed, technical debt, and long-term scalability
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in product engineering, with a focus on AI/ML products
  • Proven experience in leading ML product development, particularly for legal technologies
  • Expertise in Node.js or Python and general full-stack software development
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile methodologies
  • Strong skills in recruiting, developing, and motivating high-performing teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align diverse perspectives

The base compensation range varies across locations. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $154,000 - $286,000. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
