The Legal Operations Specialist is responsible for driving operational excellence within the legal department by managing legal technology platforms, ensuring contract compliance, and supporting process optimization. This role plays a key part in enabling the legal team to operate efficiently, scale effectively, and deliver strategic value to the business.
What You’Ll Do
- Administer and optimize legal technology platforms, including contract lifecycle management (CLM).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for CLM vendor, including implementation, configuration, and ongoing support.
- Implement new contract workflows and maintain updates to existing contract workflows at the direction of the managing legal teams.
- Work with legal teams to ensure proper documentation of contract workflow and system requirements.
- Collaborate with IT and legal stakeholders to evaluate, select, and deploy new legal technology solutions.
- Train legal and business users on legal technology systems and ensure high adoption and satisfaction.
- Review contracts to ensure accuracy and completeness in accordance with legal standards and company policies.
- Verify key contract terms, clauses, dates, and obligations against internal requirements.
- Identify potential risks, inconsistencies, or missing provisions and escalate to reviewing attorneys/stakeholders as needed.
- Monitor contract obligations and support audits, reporting, and risk assessments.
- Maintain a centralized contract repository and ensure metadata accuracy and accessibility.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline legal workflows and reduce manual effort.
- Develop and maintain legal department playbooks.
- Generate reports and dashboards on legal KPIs, contract status, and contract volume.
- Analyze data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for operational improvement.
What You’Ll Need
- Bachelor’s degree required; legal studies or paralegal certification preferred.
- 4-6 years of experience in legal operations, legal technology, or contract management. Experience in legal operations, contract management, or legal technology. Manages moderately complex projects, provides subject matter expertise, trains others, and operates with noticeable independence.
- Performing work with greater autonomy (though still under the direction of managing attorneys/legal leadership).
- Regularly exercising discretion and independent judgment.
- Hands-on experience with legal tech platforms (e.g., Ironclad and DocuSign).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Domo).
- Strong understanding of contract lifecycle processes and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with basic contract review for accuracy, risk, and compliance.
- Familiarity with standard contract terms.
- Excellent project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in a corporate legal department or legal operations team.
- Experience leading legal tech implementations or system migrations.
- Knowledge of change management and training best practices.
The typical annual salary range for this position is shown below and is negotiable depending upon experience and location. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.
