Job Description:

Skills Required:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of Mainframe z/OS architecture, operating systems, and 3rd party products.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate, mentor and develop a remote team, distributed into several EU countries, delegate tasks effectively, and resolve conflicts.
  • Project Management: Experience in planning, organizing, and executing projects, including setting deadlines and tracking progress.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.  
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with team members, management, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Installation: Install MVS software into the repository, ensuring compatibility and adherence to installation guidelines.
  • Change Management: Implement software changes following the required change process, including documentation and testing.
  • On-Call Support: Provide 7x24 on-call support for z/OS systems, responding to incidents and resolving issues promptly.
  • I/O Configuration: Create I/O configuration requests as needed to support system changes and performance optimization.
  • Maintenance IPL Preparation: Execute MOM tickets to prepare for maintenance IPLs, ensuring system readiness and minimizing downtime.
  • Refresh Projects: Complete z/OS builds and supporting changes for refresh projects, updating systems with the latest software and configurations.
  • Migration Projects: Complete MVS tasks related to migration projects, including data transfer, system configuration, and application compatibility.
  • LPAR Decommissioning: Complete MVS tasks for LPAR decommissions, ensuring a smooth transition of workloads and data.
  • LPAR Builds: Complete MVS tasks for LPAR builds, configuring new logical partitions and allocating resources.
  • CPU Swap Projects: Complete MVS tasks for CPU swap projects, managing the transition of workloads and resources between CPUs.
  • Software Zaps: Install and implement software zaps to extend third-party software functionality.
  • System Recovery: Complete MVS tasks for system recovery during disaster recovery drills, ensuring a timely and effective restoration of systems.
  • Complex Profiles: Maintain and manage complex profiles, including security profiles, authorization profiles, and access controls.
  • Asset Center Records: Maintain Asset Center installation records for MVS software, ensuring accurate tracking and management.
  • SMF Data: Process SMF data to analyze system performance, identify issues, and generate reports.
  • System Exits: Update and reassemble system exits to customize system behavior and functionality.
  • OMVS Segments and zFS Files: Maintain OMVS segments and zFS files, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • ProdAdmin Requests: Complete MVS ProdAdmin requests, addressing system changes and configuration updates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in z/OS system programming.
  • Strong understanding of z/OS architecture, system programming techniques, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in z/OS system commands and utilities.
  • Experience with system management tools and automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in z/OS system programming or a related field.
  • Experience with specific z/OS subsystems (e.g., JES, IMS, CICS).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., REXX, COBOL).
  • Experience with cloud-based mainframe environments.

Documentation

  • Ensure that all relevant documentation is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including procedures, standards, and knowledge base articles.
