Salary - National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £43,100 - £50,800 and London ranging from £47,300 – £55,000 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

The Fraud team has been set up to develop and deliver the FCA’s approach to reviewing firms’ antifraud systems and controls.  The focus of this work is ensuring that regulated firms’ are taking adequate steps to protect their customers from being victims of fraud and they are not being used by fraudsters.  The team is developing and implementing approaches to supervising what firms are doing to tackle fraud. 

We are looking for an Associate with strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to review firms and make sound, evidence-based decisions in relation to the adequacy of their controls. You will be a strong communicator, both verbally and written, and able to engage with stakeholders at all levels.     

What will you be doing?

  • Support reviews of firms’ antifraud systems and controls.  Critically assessing and evaluating their controls, undertaking detailed testing, leading meetings and interviews with firms.  Exercising strong judgement of firms controls against relevant policies, rules and guidance.  Considering and proposing use of regulatory tools to reduce and mitigate risk of harms   
  • Draft clear and concise correspondence to firms, internal stakeholders and external stakeholders including other regulators and law enforcement agencies 
  • Support peer comparison and analysis of the maturity of firms’ anti-fraud systems and controls in relation to other firms in the sector and the wider market
  • Work closely and effectively with colleagues across the division and other key internal and external stakeholders to provide a joined-up approach to antifraud supervision.  Supporting the attendance at meetings with stakeholders
  • Build and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Collaborating inclusively, contributing to an environment where all opinions are listened to and respected and engaging with the FCA Diversity and Inclusion agenda

  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive plan on the FCA supervisory approach to assessing firms’ anti-fraud systems and controls, including understand how to better utilise fraud data and intelligence available from internal/external sources

Minimum

  • Prior experience with Fraud
  • Prior experience of using data and evidence-based judgements to make recommendations 
  • Prior experience engaging with stakeholders internally and externally both verbally and in writing

Essential

  • You will be required to be security cleared. This requires two years of UK address history and further checks
  • Ability to prioritise your workload, managing your time effectively and using sound judgement to achieve results in a high-pressure environment 
  • Ability to influence constructively and deal with challenge
  • Good verbal communication skills, ability to deliver impactful messages to stakeholders 
  • Ability to work on your own, use sound judgement and escalate issues appropriately 
  • A curious and inquisitive mindset, and a drive to deliver in the public interest
