Summary Of Job Responsibilities
This job has the goal of providing the opportunity to acquire practical experience through direct exposure to the related business line(s) and to develop the next generation of diverse business professionals. To that end, the program will provide hands-on training and experience in the business line, expose the various career opportunities in the business line and related areas, and prepare participants for positions in the business.
Typical responsibilities include, providing services to the day-to-day operating objectives of the assigned area, participating in projects and programs appropriate to the needs of the assigned area, participating in the planning and implementation of projects and initiatives, conducting research and reporting including recommendations or proposals for action.
As an Internal Audit Intern at Highmark, this role will support the internal audit team in evaluating the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes. Responsibilities may include assisting in the execution of audit programs, developing process flows, reviewing financial records and operational procedures, identifying control weaknesses, and documenting audit findings. This role will also provide the opportunity to collaborate with different departments within the organization to gain a comprehensive understanding of Highmark’s operations and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Full or part-time enrollment in an accredited college or university baccalaureate program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation date: Winter 2026 or Spring 2027
- Previous experience in Accounting/Auditing/Finance related coursework/classes
- Student pursuing CPA or CIA certification(s)
Essential Job Functions
- Communicate effectively while interacting directly with colleagues and internal/external business process owners and auditees throughout the planning, execution, and reporting stages of audit engagements.
- Under supervision, perform day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the audit team in alignment with internal audit methodologies and best practices, including the development of planning documents, executing fieldwork testing and preparation of workpapers, and drafting of audit/advisory reports.
- Participate in discussions with business process owners and assist in the development of process flows and/or control matrixes to document processes and controls in place.
- Develop an understanding and utilize audit management software to complete tasks in conjunction with the internal audit approval workflow.
- Undertake/participate in projects and programs designed to develop professional skills, including presenting to audit management.
- As requested by management, conduct research and reporting on industry, enterprise, or professional topics.
- Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
