The Position
Process Development EngineerJob Summary
This Process Development Engineer position at Imerys is located in Johns Creek, GA, a sought-after suburb of Atlanta. The engineer will be responsible for scaling up new products and processes, developing a deep understanding of particulate processing, and leading process innovation projects. You will also work with plant engineers to optimize existing processes and collaborate with other teams to create new intellectual property.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience in lab and plant settings, and strong analytical skills. You should also be a self-starter, motivated, and detail-oriented.

Key Responsibilities:
- Scale-up of new products or processes from lab through pilot to plant with emphasis on achieving EHS, technical and regulatory requirements, efficiency and cost effectiveness. Work across all NA business segments.
- Develop a deep understanding of unit operations & instrumentation in solids processing (crushing, wet and dry grinding, milling, beneficiation, flotation, classification, drying etc), processes for surface treatment and making blends & composites. Collect and create a knowledge repository of process technology across the company.
- Be part of the S&T team, spearhead process innovation projects to shape the future of our manufacturing processes.
- Work with equipment vendors to stay current with emerging technologies, identify and test technologies of interest for sustainable processes
- Work closely with plant engineers to optimize existing plant processes, support current process improvement efforts, and lead transformative process improvement using engineering principles and data analysis.
- Develop strong interactions with with S&T, industrial operations, engineering, maintenance etc
- Create new intellectual property for Imerys
Key Skills:
- Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and physics, math and some chemistry.
- Hands on, must be a self-starter, enjoy working in lab and plants
- Curious, motivated, results-driven, and detail oriented. Enjoys problem-solving using engineering principles and learning new skills.
- Strong analytical skills, including in Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design of Experiments (DOE) defect analysis, and advanced data analysis.
- Written communication skills - technical reports (visits, trials, studies), presentations
- Organized and methodical with strong project management skills to manage multiple projects
- Ability to lead and drive challenging projects forward despite uncertainties
- B.S. or M.S. in engineering (Chemical, mechanical or materials engineering)
- Six Sigma and Lean training strongly preferred, knowledge of Minitab/JMP/R
- 2+ years experience in industrial solids processing, preferred.
- Knowledge of engineering software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, AspenPlus, ANSYS) a plus
- Travel: approximately 30% after initial training
