$30.15 - $45.25We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Implementation Science at Wake Forest University School of Medicine (North Carolina) to advance NIH-funded research on substance use and HIV. The fellow will contribute to projects focused on expanding pharmacy-based HIV and overdose prevention services and developing tailored interventions for women who inject drugs in the South. This 2–3 year position offers interdisciplinary collaboration, career development support (including preparation for K awards), and opportunities to build expertise in human-centered design, mixed methods, implementation science, and policy translation. Candidates with a PhD in epidemiology, public health, behavioral health, or related fields and strong interest in HIV/substance use research are encouraged to apply. The position will involve working on projects in collaboration with the Center for Addiction Research, the Maya Angelou Research Center for Healthy Communities (MARCH), and the Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute. The successful candidate will work on key projects that aim to improve health outcomes and inform policy:
Pharmacy Access to HIV and Overdose Prevention
This project assesses the availability and regional differences in HIV and overdose prevention services offered through pharmacies in Illinois and North Carolina. Using mystery shopper calls, qualitative interviews, and mixed methods, the successful candidate will contribute to developing strategies to expand pharmacy-based prevention services supporting the goals of the End the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative. The work aims to inform policy and improve healthcare access in community settings.
Implementation and Behavioral Research on HIV Prevention
The second project focuses on strategies for reducing HIV acquisition risk among women who inject drugs in the southern U.S. The researcher will assist in developing, refining, and piloting tailored interventions, including contingency management and positive affect strategies, to improve prevention outcomes among this population. Opportunities will include intervention design, pilot testing, and implementation science research.
Position Highlights
- Duration of two to three years, with mentorship and support for career development, including preparation for independent research funding (e.g., K awards).
- Collaborative, interdisciplinary environment engaging experts in HIV prevention, substance use, implementation science, community-engaged research, data science, pharmacy, and health outcomes.
- Access to research and programming support through affiliated centers.

- Support for publishing research findings and establishing an independent research trajectory.
Qualifications
