POSITION SUMMARY: Primarily responsible for welding on a variety of parts in accordance to specifications and blueprints. May operate additional machinery and equipment to fabricate parts. Responsible for compliance to quality standards.
Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Starts power supply to produce electric current.
- Preheats work piece with torch when needed.
- Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt base metal to join edges of work piece.
- Manually guided TIG/MIG torch along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle.
- Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Welds in flat, horizontal and vertical positions.
- Responsible for fabricating a variety of parts in accordance to specifications and prints.
- Responsible for training and learning a variety or work stations by following training guidelines.
- Responsible for following all applicable safety/housekeeping guidelines. Performs necessary preventative maintenance.
- Responsible for following process sheets/work instructions, department area procedures on matters such as KANBAN and scrap/reprocessing. Responsible for reporting on variety of matters such as safety and training. Performs necessary inspections and documents as necessary.
- May work on special projects/assignments upon request. Including other departments based on production needs.
- Able to work in a team directed environment
Required Skills, Knowledge And Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- One year certificate from college or technical school; plus six months to one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Formal certificates in MIG and/or TIG welding are preferred.
- Must be able to interpret prints and use appropriate measuring devices, such as rulers, calipers, veneer calipers, etc. Must be able to obtain correct size filler rod. Must be able to MIG and/or TIG weld.
