Our High School Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for connecting the Fortis Wayne Campus with high school students, parents, and counselors to promote educational programs and enrollment opportunities. They typically play a key role in recruitment and admissions efforts, working to increase awareness of the institutions offerings and guide prospective students through the application process.
Key duties- Developing and implementing outreach strategies: This includes identifying target high schools, community organizations, and prospective students, as well as creating messaging and materials to engage them.
- Building and maintaining relationships: Establishing and fostering positive relationships with high school students, parents, and high school counselors, acting as a liaison between the college and the high school community.
- Conducting informational sessions and workshops: Planning and delivering presentations and workshops, on and off campus, to inform students and families about the college's programs, admissions requirements, financial aid, and student life.
- Representing the college: Attending college fairs, recruitment events, and other community gatherings to represent the college and interact with prospective students and their families.
- Guiding students through the admissions process: Providing individualized guidance and support to students as they navigate the application process, answer questions, and address concerns.
- Analyzing data and evaluating effectiveness: Tracking outreach data and student feedback to assess the success of recruitment efforts and inform future strategies.
- Administrative tasks: May also handle administrative duties like maintaining records, preparing reports, and coordinating events.
- Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., education, communications, public relations, or a related field) is often a minimum requirement, according to some job descriptions.
- Experience: Previous experience in student engagement, event planning, and/or outreach programs, especially within educational settings (high school, college, or community college), is typically required.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for interacting with students, parents, educators, and other stakeholders.
- Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build rapport with diverse individuals and groups, and to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners is essential.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills are needed to plan and execute outreach events, manage data, and track progress.
- Event Planning: Experience in planning and coordinating events, such as workshops, presentations, and campus visits, is often required.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software, including email and internet for research, writing, and correspondence.
- Knowledge of Higher Education: A solid understanding of higher education systems, admissions processes, financial aid, and student support services is beneficial.
- Commitment to Student Success: A passion for helping students succeed in their educational and career goals is a key characteristic for outreach coordinators.
- Ability to Work Independently and as a Team: Outreach coordinators often work independently but also collaborate with various teams and departments.
- Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify and address challenges related to student recruitment and retention, and to adapt to changing needs and situations.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel locally or regionally, as needed, to reach students and families.
- Knowledge of Diverse Populations: Experience working with diverse populations, including low-income, first-generation, and other underrepresented students, is often emphasized.
- Data Management and Reporting: The ability to collect, analyze, and report on outreach data to track effectiveness and inform future strategies.
