Job Overview:
Ross Video has a world leading family of live broadcast robotic systems. You will be part of a small, multi-disciplined and highly skilled team, where cross fertilization of knowledge is actively encouraged. The robotics team is based in Ottawa. Our robotics production facilities are located in Iroquois. You will be involved in exciting new product development as well as product sustaining and customer support. Whilst Ross has excellent technical support and manufacturing teams, you will be called upon to resolve the more complex customer issues or assist the factory in issues with production.

What the job is all about:
• Participate in evaluation of robotics technology developments with a key focus on actuator, sensor & compute platform technologies, and architecture best-practice developments. Propose solutions / improvements in line with product strategy.
• Close cooperation with Software team to ensure clear implementation plan between Hardware and Firmware.
• Generate both specification & design documentation to develop mechatronic solutions as part of a cross functional team. Develop schematics and support detailed board layout for designs:
◦ Circuit design
◦ DC power design
◦ Motor control / tuning
◦ FPGA development
• Hands-on testing / validation of new designs.
• Develop test features that can be utilized by manufacturing test and product verification.
• Support other staff members as necessary through entire NPI process flow – including design, documentation, sourcing, manufacture and test.
• Close cooperation with production team.
• Lead troubleshooting investigations at system level and hardware level as required as part of NPI, Manufacturing and Field issues as required.
Who you are:
• 8+ years HW development experience with expertise in Robotics / Automation technologies.
• Bachelor / Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience designing dynamic systems including motors & drive trains control.
• Digital / Analog interface protocol knowledge essential.
• C++, Python experience preferred.
• Matlab modelling experience, or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in FPGA development languages an asset.
• Debug skills, proficient using typical lab-based equipment.
• Experience in the product design cycle, including New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Understanding of digital video and associated audio standards a plus.
• Experience in working with Agile development methods is considered an asset.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative, organized and very detail oriented.
• Self-starter, quick learner and are able to work with minimum supervision in meeting schedules and project deadlines.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Able to work independently or as part of a team.
Other requirements:
• Office & Laboratory environment.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Hybrid work stream – at least 3 days in lab per week.
