We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Senior Vice President, Counsel to join our Legal team. This role is located in Hong Kong.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Serve as a legal advisor to multiple business lines operating in Asia Pacific, namely (a) Clearance and Collateral Management (b) Liquidity and Segregation (c) Markets FX and (d) Securities Finance, reporting to the Asia Pacific Head of Legal for Clearance and Collateral Management and Markets.
- Negotiate service agreements with clients and update template agreements for changes in regulation
- Advise various internal stakeholders including Compliance, Risk and Credit officers on legal and regulatory issues that arise in connection with the business.
- Recommend and manage outside counsel engaged to provide legal advice on various issues across the APAC region.
- Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments and advise senior business managers, regional area management and other internal stakeholders.
- Interpret new laws and regulations applicable to various businesses in order to collaborate with the business to develop new products and appropriate documentation.
- Actively collaborate within the broader practice group of lawyers who support these businesses worldwide and coordinate with and provide subject matter expertise to other members of the Legal Department requiring support.
- Assist with other legal matters outside of these businesses and other lines of business as and when required, including assisting Compliance in developing compliance policies and procedures and interactions with regulators.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Law degree from a recognized law school with minimum 3-7 years of post-qualification experience. Relevant in-house experience is an advantage but not essential.
- Experience in negotiating with and advising financial institutions engaged in transactions involving collateral management services, global custody and clearing and securities finance an advantage.
- Experience in negotiating complex service agreements with institutional clients.
- Experience in advising senior business managers and control functions with respect to risk, credit, operational and compliance issues.
- Experience with a foreign financial institution would be advantageous but not essential.
- Excellent written and oral communication and drafting skills in English (and with Japanese language proficiency as a preferred skill).
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with colleagues and business people at all levels.
- Process and explain complex legal issues to internal stakeholders
- Demonstrates solid judgment in evaluating complex legal and business issues; knows when and how to effectively escalate and articulate regulatory issue.
- The ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Must be a self-starter with ability to function independently.
