This position is a member of our Water Quality Planning Division.

Here’S What You’Ll Be Doing

  • Oversee and participate in highly advanced technical work related to Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and TMDL Implementation Plan development, the preparation of scientific informational material, and the planning of special projects and other watershed management activities. Establish and coordinate the implementation of short-, intermediate-, and long-range watershed management approaches from both an agency and statewide perspective. Conduct presentations for stakeholders, professional associations, industrial and municipal groups, environmental organizations, and the public on water quality issues; leads and/or participates in water quality-related workgroups.
  • Prepare and review documents and presentation materials developed by the team. Supervise the daily activities of the TMDL Team to include assigning workloads and priorities, preparing management reports, and consulting with other water programs to coordinate activities.
  • Establish standards for achieving goals associated with meeting and/or exceeding performance measurements and ensure program requirements and goals and objectives within the division are met. Ensure staff are trained and follow protocols.
  • Complete and administer all aspects of personnel management functions, which includes hiring, staff development, conducting performance appraisals, performance management, ensuring compliance with EEO/ADA objectives, etc.; monitor time and attendance; and train/assist staff in the accomplishment of work objectives.

Key Qualifications

  • Awarded bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in aquatic-related science.
  • Experience directing and administering a program budget; as well as procurement, contracts, federal grants, and/or progress reporting.
  • Experience supervising professional and/or technical staff, including performing personnel management functions.
 

Qualifications

 

Required Education & Experience

Experience in the administration of a program relevant to assignment.

Or

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2).  Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
