Business BankerACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT The Business Banker position will develop, retain and deepen business member relationships within an assigned geographic region while working closely with designated branches through prospecting, cross-selling, relationship management efforts, and excellent member service. The Business Banker will be responsible for building and deepening relationships with small businesses with revenues up to $5 million and business lending needs up to $1,000,000, while cross-selling additional products and services, and successfully transferring larger relationships to a Commercial Banker. The Business Banker will work in conjunction with branch partners to identify business member’s and non-member’s financial needs, both business and personal, to sell the appropriate products and services from VyStar’s full suite of financial offerings. This position will also provide ongoing support to designated branches in terms of business development to assist with the achievement of individual branch goals, understanding of credit decisions and loan documents, and assisting with difficult loan closings as needed. The Business Banker will professionally handle any business services inquiries and referrals from existing members, non-members, and internal and external sources. The Business Banker is expected to effectively resolve problems or situations relating to business members within assigned portfolio, following established policies and procedures while meeting all goals and objectives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for building and deepening relationships with small businesses with revenues up to $5 million and business lending needs up to $1,000,000.
  • Achieve individual annual production and growth goals of both business loans and deposits to ensure VyStar meets its overall financial goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with assigned branches and Commercial Banker partners to grow, retain business member relationships and achieve their business lending and deposit growth goals by actively participating in branch team meetings, training and calling efforts.
  • Utilize a needs-based and consultative approach while working with small business owner to identify their short and long-term financial needs.
  • Responsible for small business growth activities including identifying new opportunities with prospects and existing business members.
  • Interact effectively with business underwriting and servicing departments to efficiently process and close loan requests, renewals and any other credit related activities.
  • Process small ticket loans from start to finish, including but not limited to: application, submission, loan processing, document preparation, loan closing, and loan boarding.
  • Call on existing business members within assigned portfolio and branch network to ensure that members’ needs are being met and appropriate solutions are presented.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new business member relationships and prospects through outbound calling efforts.
  • Actively participate in local community and business organizations to maximize and develop a referral network, source business development opportunities and demonstrate VyStar’s commitment to the local community.
  • Refer larger business relationships or opportunities with more complex financial needs to Commercial Banker partners.
  • Execute and coordinate business member retention activities with branches in response to competitor's activities.
  • Leverage problem-solving and strong communication skills to resolve business member issues and disputes.
  • Present a professional, friendly and helpful appearance with every interaction as a representative of the Commercial Services team.
  • Provide outstanding member service and ensure sales and referral expectations are achieved.
  • Remain informed of VyStar’s credit standards, pricing structure, loan policies and procedures, member service practices fundamental to the successful execution of the Business Banker II job duties and responsibilities.
  • Document business development activities, sales pipeline and calendar reporting in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of VyStar’s business services products and services.
  • Handle incoming referrals from branches, call center and other internal partners.
  • Adhere to VyStar Credit Union and departmental policies and procedures concerning attendance, daily schedules, action items and reporting requirements.
  • Meet and exceed VyStar Credit Union member service goals and objectives.
  • Meet and exceed VyStar Credit Union production goals and objectives.
  • Perform other essential job-related duties as assigned by SVP of Commercial Services, VP of Commercial Sales, or Business Banking Manager.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 5+ years of branch sales experience or equivalent financial services sales experience with proven success in establishing new customers/members, loan/deposit growth, and the ability to deliver results.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with small businesses in a retail sales or service role at a credit union, retail bank or related financial services organization.
  • Must have a basic understanding of small business credit, deposit, and related products and services.
  • Good understanding of business/personal financial statements and tax returns to identify credit worthiness and identifying risk potential.
  • Proven track record of success and skills in developing new clients and business, including pro-active prospecting, sourcing and networking.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
  • Aptitude to source and build new business relationships.
  • Good understanding of all business credit facilities including, but not limited to:  Commercial Real Estate (CRE), Business Lines of Credit, business equipment/vehicle loans and unsecured financing.
  • Must be highly motivated, confident, detail oriented, able to multi-task and work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Willingness to work branch hours as applicable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in business preferred or equivalent work experience
