Position Overview:
The Regional Director, Business Development, leads a team of Account Executive and Account Directors collectively responsible for selling Catalent technologies. The Regional Director, Business Development, is accountable for achieving Revenue, Sales, Quotes and Funnel goals for the region and for ensuring the staffing, engagement, and development of the individuals within the team.
This person is the secondary point of contact for customers within the defined territory, will interact with site leadership alongside the BD team, and will closely interact with Catalent leadership counterparts.
Specific objectives around the new business generation across all service offerings will be agreed on an annual basis through business targets & metrics for the region or offering managed.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute regional business development strategies to drive revenue growth.
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of entry-level to senior sales professionals, fostering skill development, managing accountability, and driving performance excellence, achieving revenue, sales, quote & funnel goals, and individual growth & development goals.
- Hold team accountable to goals and objectives, utilizing internal processes for leadership coaching and performance management.
- Manage key accounts and high-value partnerships, ensuring long-term client satisfaction and retention. Establish and develop long-term company-to-company relationships with customer decision-makers.
- Define the sales strategy/product priorities for the region you oversee. Ensure customers are up to date with any new products within the technology.
- Oversee sales pipeline management, ensuring proper funnel development and forecasting accuracy.
- Achieve individual technology quote, sales, revenue & funnel goals, and individual growth goals
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, PM, manufacturing, regulatory) to align solutions with client needs.
- Collaborate with Global Partner Leaders in the construction and execution of their strategic account plan(s)
- Analyze market trends and competitor activities to refine business strategies.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
- Ensure team adherence to best practices in customer targeting, value selling, and negotiation strategies.
- Engage with senior leaders for customer management to provide sales leverage, Catalent perspective, and a channel for major opportunities and issues on behalf of direct reports.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, business administration or another related field preferred; Advanced scientific degree and/or Master of Business Administration / commercially orientated degree is advantageous but not essential.
- 8+ years of combined sales and/or sales management experience in the pharmaceutical contract services sales (CDMO), pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consumer health or life sciences industries.
- Distinct knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and drug development is preferred.
- Sales/business development experience in the contract pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred.
- Experience leading teams at various levels to drive business growth
- Hunting mentality mandatory but also understands the value of cultivating ongoing business with current clients.
- Proven ability to drive revenue growth and build lasting client relationships.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- The ability and willingness to travel up to 75% of the time to meet with clients and attend industry events.
- Excellent communication in English, German is a plus
- Strong negotiation and persuasion skills to drive successful deal closures.
- Proficiency in managing team using CRM software and other sales tools for managing leads, contacts, and sales activities.
- High level of organization and attention to detail to effectively manage multiple client relationships simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and target-driven mindset to achieve and exceed sales goals.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to a positive work culture.
- Able to strategically articulate technical offerings with clients and can accurately identify internal resources needed to close a deal.
