Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and in conformity with the University Development and policy procedures, the Director, Taste for a Cure provides leadership and program direction of Taste for a Cure the singular most important fundraising event of the year for the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation (JCCF), and thus the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCLA Health JCCC), by raising unrestricted funds that are pivotal to the functioning of the JCCF and the ability of the UCLA Health JCCC to advance vital and innovative cancer research. You will oversee all appropriate responsibilities related to program management, strategic planning and analysis, special events management, and volunteer engagement for Taste for a Cure.

This is a rehire limited 1 year appointment role at 43% FTE through 10/05/2026.

Salary: $7,200 - $15,400 monthly

Required:

  • 3-5 years professional experience in planning, organizing, and successfully completing fund raising special events for non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated skills in development of operating plans for fund-raising events.
  • Demonstrated skill in working independently.
  • Demonstrated skill in implementation and follow-up of operating plans.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relations with inter and extramural offices, volunteer groups, vendors and other related organizations.
  • Working knowledge of fund-raising principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with volunteers, donors, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated skill in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize duties and assignments and work with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated skill in writing concise, logical, grammatically correct correspondence, publicity announcements, reports, etc.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting practices to authorize and approve specific event expenditures and prepare reports.
  • Ability to make oral one-on-one as well as group presentations to provide information on fund raising events.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to prioritize competing tasks in a busy event-based office and maintain organization, communication, long-term strategy and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate a wide range of interpersonal skill in ability to work with high level volunteers, corporate partners and donors to ensure that event fundraising goals are achieved.
  • Able to protect confidential information; do what is right even when no one is watching; demonstrate ethical conduct at all times; question actions inconsistent with our values.
  •  Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Able to quickly focus on what is important; establish sequence of tasks and completion dates; set priorities and allocate time and resources when faced with competing demands; prioritize assignments involving competing deadlines.
  • Knowledge of cancer and cancer-related fields.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing administrative staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows-based software, specifically Excel, Word, and database software.
