Qualifications
Microbiology and the corresponding labs (BIOL 140/140L) provide a solid foundation in the biology of microorganisms with emphasis on those forms of medical importance. It is required for all students planning to enroll in the Nursing program at SMC and will be conducted in a lecture and laboratory format, with the laboratory component focusing on techniques for culture, isolation, characterization, and identification of microorganisms. There are no prerequisites for BIO140/140L. This course is usually taken by students in their first year at Saint Mary’s College.
This lecture and lab combination will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2026 Spring Term as follows:
- Lecture, MW 10:40 - 11:55 am
- Lab, T 8:30 - 11:30 am
- Lab, T 1:30 - 4:30 pm
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in a relevant area of biology and undergraduate teaching experience in biology. Preference will be given to those who have previously taught Biology 40.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $19,859 - $27,488 (8 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
