Description
The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH), under the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is currently hiring for the position of Environmental Service Specialist II. The selected candidate will coordinate, supervise, and participate in the cleaning and maintenance of the facility, including directing and evaluating the work of the employees engaged in general housekeeping tasks.
Please Note: The schedule for this position is full-time, 40 hours/week, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM, with Tuesday & Wednesday as the days off.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Maintains the day-to-day janitorial and housekeeping services for The Worcester Recovery Center & Hospital to ensure clean, safe, and proper use of infection controls in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Supervises ESS staff in the performance of their varied tasks including scheduling and assignments of individuals, or project crews.
- Coordinates and ensures that all work schedules are covered to provide effective operational support.
- Confirms with ESS staff that work performed meets established standards, policies, and departmental regulations.
- Participates in departmental Quality Improvement programs to ensure regulatory compliance with quality standards.
- Collaborates with unit managers as requested to review unit concerns and to remedy any corrective actions.
- Provides and facilitates in-service training, departmental orientation for housekeeping staff.
- Participates in all employee evaluation performance appraisals, core competencies and any disciplinary processes.
- Confers with supervisor concerning work activities to resolve problems and exchange ideas.
- Performs daily housekeeping and cleaning duties as needed, using appropriate supplies and equipment, to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of all areas.
Required Qualifications:
- Skilled in understanding and applying the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and safety procedures of institutional housekeeping including the types and uses of materials and equipment used.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing work objectives.
- Capacity to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and lift/carry heavy objects.
- Talent for providing oral and written instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated progressive growth in the field of healthcare cleaning or facility maintenance.
- Capacity to establish procedures, policies and organizational standards, and the safe use of cleaning agents and equipment.
- Skilled in exhibiting initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Demonstrated language skills that allow for two-way communication, effective patient service, coordination with other members of the patient care team.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Qualifications

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
