A Brief Overview of Sonography
A Sonographer (Ultrasound Tech) is a diagnostic medical professional whom provides diagnostic medical ultrasound exams consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards. The Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, maintaining patient workflow, technical aspects of equipment maintenance, and quality assessment (QA). The Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self motivated to increase their level of understanding and knowledge of the field, pathologically process and advancements in ultrasound technology.
What You Will Do as ghe Team Lead
- Assists leadership in maintaining licensure and continuing medical education of staff.
- Maintains modality schedule, vacation and PTO requests, staffing to volumes under the direct supervision of the supervisor
- Responsible for daily billing reconciliation.
- Provides guidance for departmental workflows.
- Responsible PACS QC follow-up and reports patterns to the supervisor.
- Participates in modality triads as needed
- Performs timekeeping edits and approvals where appropriate.
- Responsible for maintaining ACR Accreditation under direct supervision of leadership.
- Assists supervisor with maintaining departmental readiness for regulatory visits.
- SME with ultrasound equipment troubleshooting.
Additional Responsibilities
- Adheres to departmental communication plan.
- Assist in department clinical comptencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
Education
High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
- Other Accredited Program: Completion of an accredited program in a school of Sonography (Required)
Work Experience
- 5+ years Must be RDMS in specialty of choice (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Effective oral and written communication skills. (Required proficiency)
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills. (Required proficiency)
- Troubleshooting equipment problem situations effectively. (Required proficiency)
- Basic computer skills (Preferred proficiency)
- Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire) and
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and/or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) (Required Upon Hire)
