About The Role

As a Non-Secure Tenancy Officer at Nottingham City Council, you will play a key role in supporting some of our city’s most vulnerable residents by managing temporary accommodation services. You will be the first point of contact for individuals and families referred through our Housing Solutions Service, helping them settle in, understand their  Tenancy conditions, and access Housing Benefit and other welfare entitlements. Your role will involve ensuring that tenancy agreements are adhered to, monitoring rent accounts, addressing arrears, and promoting financial stability, while also ensuring that residents maintain positive behaviours to comply with tenancy agreements. You will take appropriate action where legal or enforcement measures are required. In addition, you will oversee the provision and upkeep of essential furniture and equipment, manage vacancies to minimise voids, and maintain accurate case records in line with council procedures. This is a varied and rewarding role where you will make a direct impact by providing safe, well-managed temporary accommodation and supporting residents towards longer-term housing solutions.

About You

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  1. Previous experience of working in a housing environment and an ability to learn.
  2. Ability to remain calm and able to make accurate and timely decisions whilst under pressure and to maintain control of challenging situations.
  3. An understanding of issues relating to homelessness.
  4. Working knowledge of Welfare Benefits.
  5. Good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to a range of customers, and the ability to develop and present written or verbal information in a clear and concise manner.
  6. Ability to be considerate but also firmly assist and direct people who may not be engaging or not adhering to their tenancy.
