Job Description
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to apply your expertise to projects that truly make an impact?
This role offers the opportunity to work on vehicle improvements and adaptations within the land-based defence sector. You’ll bring your design skills, creativity, and problem-solving ability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and contributing to projects that push technology forward.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Be:
- Design and deliver mechanical solutions for vehicle modifications, improvements, and adaptations in the land defence domain.
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and other CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, Creo, NX).
- Perform structural hand calculations to validate designs and support engineering decision-making.
- Generate technical documentation, drawings, and specifications in line with industry and defence standards.
- Integrate feedback from testing, production, and stakeholders to improve designs and ensure functionality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, electrical, and production engineers to achieve project milestones.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and relevant BS codes in all design work.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, optimising processes and supporting innovation in mechanical engineering.
- Support prototype builds and trials, providing engineering input during assembly and testing phases.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven experience in Mechanical Design Engineering.
- Strong 3D modelling and 2D drafting skills with SolidWorks; familiarity with other CAD platforms (e.g., CATIA, Creo, NX, AutoCAD) is highly valued.
- Direct experience in vehicle improvements and adaptations, ideally within the land-based defence sector.
- Strong ability to perform initial structural hand calculations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Background in automotive, aerospace, or defence industries.
- BPSS clearable.
Desirable:
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM and SolidWorks Visualize.
- Experience generating vehicle body parts from 3D scan data.
- Familiarity with ISO 8015, BS 308, BS 3643, BS 499 standards.
