Job Description Summary

Reporting directly to the GridBeats Autonomous Distribution PL Leader, the Autonomous Distribution Application Engineer is a key member of the GridBeats team. The Application Engineer possesses advanced technical expertise in power system design and operation, along with comprehensive knowledge of our Grid Automation products and systems, with a special focus on Advanced Automation Applications. The employee is responsible for the technical definition and resolution of new market challenges, developing Proof of Concept (PoC) solutions in collaboration with customers, and defining processes for Integrated Tendering Operations (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR). The Autonomous Distribution Application Engineer will also oversee defining technical specifications for new developments as inputs for the R&D team, as well as validating and accepting the outputs.

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

The Autonomous Distribution Application Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing technical expertise and developing technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) as part of the pre-ITO (requisition) process while interfacing with the commercial team.
  • Owning and developing Proof of Concept (PoC) solutions in collaboration with key customers.
  • Conducting technical analysis of client needs, including definition and optimization of solutions, scope description, schedule, and cost considerations, in alignment with internal policies and procedures.
  • Documenting technical specifications and costing as templates for the ITO team.
  • Defining technical specifications for new developments as inputs for the R&D team and validating and accepting R&D deliverables.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in Distribution Automation, Zonal Autonomous Control, and Power Management Systems, among others, with an awareness of the latest technical developments in the field.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of best practices and understanding how Distribution Automation integrates with other systems; developing a working knowledge of competition and differentiating factors in the market.
  • Acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience by explaining complex or sensitive information and working to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills necessary to influence others on topics within the field.

Basic Qualifications

Master’s degree in engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college and /or equivalent experience.

Strong experience in Design and Engineering with good technical acumen in the domain of Grid Automation.

  • Must be a motivator, self-starter and dedicated team player with a sense of urgency and an ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in autonomous problem-solving with proposal of adapted solutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Established project management skills.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in electrical advanced automation application transmission, distribution, industrial and/or power generation sector.
  • Expert level on Grid Automation’s solutions portfolio.
  • Advanced level on PLC programing skills. Experience in programing languages valued (Python, Visual Basics, C, etc…)
  • Digital simulator experience on RTDS/OPAL.
  • Proficiency level in English. Other languages valued (Spanish, French, Arabic, German, French, Italian and/or Russian).
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally (50% of the time).
