DTU Energy is looking for a development engineer to support our experimental activities in the section for functional oxides.

At DTU Energy, our vibrant section dedicated to functional oxides leads innovative efforts in synthesis, characterization, and practical application of these materials for energy solutions. We are launching exciting new projects and are currently seeking a talented Development Engineer to strengthen our team.

In this role, you will support our researchers and students with state-of-the-art instruments and tools for preparing and processing advanced freestanding oxide membranes. Your work will involve cutting-edge techniques such as thin film deposition, stacking, twisting of oxide membranes, and clean-room-based processes like metal deposition. Additionally, you will play a key role in enabling precise electrical characterization of materials to drive forward next-generation energy technologies.

The Tasks Involve

  • Fabrication of freestanding oxide membranes
  • Characterizing these membranes
  • Releasing and transferring of oxide membranes
  • Stacking and twisting of oxide membranes
  • Managing and maintaining instruments in the surface lab.
  • Performing, supporting, and fabricating of stacks of freestanding membranes.
  • Development of new experimental tools.
  • Supporting and performing materials fabrication using clean room processing
  • Supporting researchers and students in their work.
  • Analyzing and discussing data and presenting results.
  • Our expectations of you
  • Your qualifications 
  • PhD degree in solid state physics 
  • Strong background in fabrication of van der Waals heterostructures of 2D materials (i.e. exfoliation and controlled positioning and stacking of 2D materials)
  • Strong background in fabrication thin films using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD)
  • Experience in clean-room nanofabrication 
  • Experience with glove box operation
  • Characterization experience such as, XRD, SPM (AFM, PFM), Raman, and XPS are highly desired.
  • Experience with the straining of thin films
  • Strong communication skills in English, both oral and in writing 
  • Experience in student supervision
  • Able to operate well in a team

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The position is a permanent employment, and the starting date is 1 December 2025 or according to mutual agreement.
