Accounting Technician II

The Department of Human Services (DHS) is hiring an Accounting Technician II for its Financial Management Bureau (FMB). This position is part of a six-member Financial Operations Team that manages a wide range of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and grant reporting processes. This position will also be responsible for processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, including receiving and posting client payments as well as entering and approving invoices.

FMB provides budgeting, procurement, client billing, grant reporting, and other financial support to all DHS programs and staff. DHS provides services to older adults, persons with disabilities, children and families, as well as programs in physical and behavioral healthcare, employment, housing, and public assistance. The population served is ethnically and culturally diverse.

Specific Duties Include:

• Staffing the customer service window to receive client payments and staff deposits;
• Posting client payments into a variety of program-specific computer systems;
• Responding to client inquiries regarding balances due and other account information;
• Processing emergency rent, utility, and medical payments on behalf of clients;
• Entering and approving purchase orders, invoices, and contracts for human services programs;
• Documenting operating procedures and business processes for training purposes; and
• Providing high-quality customer service to clients and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; and 
• Considerable (2-years) experience processing financial transactions that included experience providing direct customer service and maintaining accurate program data.

Desirables: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:

• Direct customer service experience in a public sector human services agency;
• Experience documenting operating procedures and business process and related training materials;
• Experience designing Excel spreadsheets, using basic formulas and tracking data; and
• Experience using PRISM+ Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPs) (e.g. Oracle) to process financial transactions. 

Additional Information

Work Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with potential for flexible telework work based upon business needs and supervisory approval.
