Our division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. You'll be part of a team with members from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, such as law, accounting, sales, and trading. We look for those who possess sound judgment, curiosity, and are able to adapt to a changing regulatory landscape.

This is an Analyst-level role within the Global Banking and Markets (GBM) – Public Compliance team, based in the Warsaw branch of Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE (GSBE), Goldman Sachs’s EU hub headquartered in Frankfurt.  The role reports to the Head of Management and Strategy for GSBE GBM Public Compliance, who is responsible for managing the audit engagement for GSBE GBM Public Compliance and for the execution of the GBM Public Compliance controls programme within the wider GBM Public Compliance team

The role will focus on the execution of the GSBE GBM Public control programme which is comprised of individuals reviews and second level controls that are designed to assess the firm and the business personnel’s adherence to applicable regulations, policies and procedures by deploying various testing techniques. 

The role will may also require direct interactions with the internal and external auditors, regulators and exchanges on GBM-Public matters. In addition, the role will assist with the execution of global and regional regulatory change projects and remediation efforts.

The EMEA Global Banking and Markets – Public Compliance team is part of the Global Compliance department. The Global Compliance team prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. 

Compliance accomplishes these through the firm’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management program. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries. 

The EMEA Global Banking and Markets – Public Compliance team is located in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and now Warsaw. Fostering cooperative and positive relationships within the EMEA Compliance teams and all the other functions in the various offices is paramount for the role, as GSBE continues to expand its activities in continental Europe and beyond.

Your Impact

Key Responsibilities Of The Role:

  • Adhering to the Global Compliance Framework and supporting the execution of the Compliance programme, including with respect to risk assessments and designing/implementing appropriate controls
  • Support the team in regulatory exams and work closely with external auditors on the annual co-ordinating approach  with GBM Public Compliance colleagues
  • Conduct key Compliance controls in line with regulatory requirements (including from BaFin)
  • Support regular and ad hoc reporting to governance foraPartner with the first line to develop their controls to ensure timely detection of issues and risks. Ensuring reviews are being performed appropriately from a qualitative and timeliness perspective and provide challenge to the design, implementation and management of corrective actions.
  • Read relevant regulations, policies and procedures to ensure an understanding of the objective and soundness of the methodology in addressing areas of risk.
  • Identify risk patterns and trends and determining focus areas for enhanced monitoring.
  • Enhancing existing review procedures based on results of previous reviews or change of risk profile of the business it covers
  • Participation in Compliance, regulatory and internal investigations and audits, including utilising firm systems to conduct forensic reviews
  • Assistance with the interpretation and implementation of new rules/regulation - assessing regulatory risks, regulatory changes and potential impact
  • Working with Legal, Controllers, Internal Audit, Technology, Operations (Client onboarding) and other areas within Compliance (including the broader Global Banking and Markets – Public team), Regional Country Compliance and the business divisions to ensure prompt and coordinated resolution of compliance matters
  • Liaising with local regulators and Exchange/venue operators and coordination of responses to ad-hoc regulatory enquiries.
  • Collaborating with other Compliance areas and the business to produce responses to information requests ahead of regulatory audits/reviews/reports/questionnaires.

Essential Skills

  • University degree 
  • Good interpersonal skills and effective written/oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Professional qualifications from bodies such as bar and chartered accountant associations are an advantage
  • Fluent in English; fluency in German or French is an asset
