As a Lead Software Engineer- Python / Distributed Computing at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Bank- markets Technology, you'll serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

This team works on development of Athena, a Python based Market Risk, pricing, and trade management platform. Athena is designed to enable rapid innovation on the desk by offering Technologists, Quantitative Analysts and Risk Managers a consistent, cross-asset portfolio of models, frameworks and tools to use in building financial applications.  The Athena Trade & Risk Services group is a global team of engineers who collaborate closely with quantitative research and line of business technology partners and are responsible for the creation and adoption of highly opinionated cross markets technology components.  This team focuses on Booking Workflows and is responsible for providing common, cross asset, low latency products that can support booking of transactions executed on both internal and external venues.  Additionally, the team is also responsible for front to back ownership of apps used by the front office to manage trades and controls.  The building blocks developed by the Booking Workflows team are used by internal technology partners to support adoption of the Athena platform. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze business and technical requirements and model workflows required to manage trade bookings and interaction with middleware platforms
  • Evaluate technology and framework choices to design and develop low latency booking systems that can scale to handle electronic trade volume requirements
  • Build Telemetry into components and visualization tools and analyze patterns to identify improvements for the workflows
  • Partner with line of business technology partners to facilitate adoption of strategic offerings
  • Work across the entire software development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and handover to client technology teams
  • Enhance the team by demonstrating best practice throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Identify and introduce automation strategies to facilitate testing across components

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Strong analytical development skills, solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and experience in real-time, resilient, high performance and/or risk and pricing and/or eTrading areas
  • Demonstrated experience working on distributed systems and with distributed computing on data intensive applications
  • Experience working on event driven systems, including strong architecture design
  • Experience with performance tuning system
  • Creative, quick-thinking, pragmatic, with an aptitude for solving problems with technology and an ability to quickly translate requirements into a sound technical design and implementation
  • Proven organizational skills, decisive priority management, strong teamwork ethic, excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security
