Senior Cloud Engineer (at the rank of IT Officer) in the Clinical Trials Centre (Ref.: 533222) 

The Clinical Trials Centre (HKU-CTC) is a leading clinical trials management platform established under The University of Hong Kong LKS Faculty of Medicine (HKUMed) and is dedicated to managing and facilitating international-standard clinical trials on new drugs, medical devices and medical technologies.  HKU-CTC offers long-term development opportunities to passionate talents who are devoted to a career in the clinical trial profession.  We are seeking a high calibre candidate to join our Digital Innovation Team.

Main Responsibilities:

• Architect and design scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure across multiple public cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, and Alibaba Cloud;
• Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows to enable robust, efficient, and secure software delivery;
• Govern cloud infrastructure performance and security, and implement advanced monitoring solutions;
• Ensure solutions are well-documented and knowledge is transferred effectively across technology teams;
• Design and implement automated recovery, disaster recovery (DR), and business continuity plans to maximize the availability and performance of mission-critical systems;
• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and industry trends to conduct proof-of-concepts initiatives and provide strategic recommendations that drive innovation and continuous improvement across the organization; and
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline;
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in cloud engineering, with a demonstrable track record in designing and leading complex cloud initiatives;
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, and a strong understanding of cloud security best practices and frameworks;
• In-depth knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes, including the design, deployment, security, and management of production-grade clusters;
• Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders; and
• Good command of written and spoken English and Cantonese (proficiency in Putonghua is an advantage).

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a 2-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
