Digital Fabrication Labs Lead Technician

As a digital fabrication labs lead technician, you will track usage statistics for the labs and equipment, and train other technicians on safe operation. This includes data related to each department and projects by outside users. You will ensure all lab policies, procedures, and established workflows are followed. Every day, you will meet with the rapid prototyping manager and assist students and faculty with file issues or project challenges.

In this role, you will regularly conduct inventory to ensure all necessary materials are purchased to meet academic needs. You will maintain all equipment to ensure it is safe, functional, and efficiently used. Among other duties, you will conduct demos, give tours, and proactively process jobs to identify and resolve issues. You will also ensure billing is completed promptly and accurately, manage updated inventory lists, and report any machine concerns to your manager. Additionally, you will assist with the university’s special projects. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Familiarity with digital technology equipment and techniques
• Proficiency in Rhinoceros, Solid Works, and Illustrator or similar modeling/graphics programs
• Knowledgeable in the safe and efficient operation, repair, and maintenance of specialized equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Finishing skills and experience in an academic environment
• Mechanical or electrical knowledge

Travel Required:

• Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
