Responsibilities

The Fund Accounting department is responsible for delivering best-in-class, technology-enabled analysis and reporting to Oaktree’s current and prospective investors and to our investment and marketing professionals globally. The Senior Vice President will be responsible for the launch and oversight of the Fund Accounting team located in Hyderabad.

The Senior Vice President will serve in a key leadership capacity, which includes but is not limited to the core functions:
(i) overseeing the maintenance of the books and records of a variety of closed-end funds, open-end funds, evergreen funds, separately managed accounts, and Luxembourg SICAVs; (ii) managing a Hyderabad-based team of fund accountants; and (iii) providing oversight and support of both Oaktree and client appointed third-party service providers. One of the key criteria for success will be transitioning various production activities from the U.S. to be undertaken by the Hyderabad team. 

The successful candidate will partner with Fund Accounting senior leadership globally to expand and manage the Hyderabad-based team operations, cultivating a high-performing team which delivers timely, high-quality financial reports and analyses to all stakeholders in alignment with global standards. The Senior Vice President will ensure the team complies with SLAs, monitors team KPIs, and continually works to enhance operational workflows, internal controls, and team training.

Responsibilities Include:

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Oversee the timely and accurate production and delivery of financial statements, dashboards and reports for Oaktree’s funds on a recurring and ad-hoc basis to the investment team, current and prospective investors, and other stakeholders globally;
  • Ensure compliance with key financial reporting controls and ensuring that evidentiary matter is appropriately documented to comply with the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley;
  • Ad hoc assistance in the research of technical guidance and implementation of new accounting pronouncements;
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Fund Accounting matters; and
  • Master in-house system technology to learn to source data and create new data extracts to efficiently respond to data requests.
  • Supervise the monthly closing process for the funds, which includes pricing, reconciling portfolio data, and calculating management fees and the accrual of expenses
  • Review quarterly and annual financial statements compliant with relevant financial reporting framework
  • Manage production of partner-level reporting
  • Create bespoke analyses leveraging existing resources to respond to ad hoc requests from current and prospective investors, including those required for requests for proposals (RFPs)

Partnership & Innovation

  • Collaborate and manage relationships with organizational partners to produce and advance Fund Accounting deliverables, including Investment/Portfolio Management Team, Product Specialists, Client Relations, IT, and Compliance;
  • Manage the delivery of projects and continuous process improvements for key deliverables; and
  • Lead team in managing technical problems with hands-on approach to drive creative solutions.

Team Leader & Management

  • Hire, develop and manage staff in alignment with Oaktree Fund Accounting standards, including providing or coordinating new hire and continuing education training, setting clear performance expectations and ensuring a continuous feedback loop;
  • Manage the resourcing requirements and staffing model (assignments, primary and backup coverage, etc.) of the Hyderabad-based team to ensure appropriate and scalable coverage of Oaktree’s strategies and reporting programs;
  • Proactively monitor the performance of the Hyderabad-based team through quantitative measures and input from internal constituents regarding the quality of the team’s deliverables, incorporating insights/feedback into team routines and/or new processes or tools; and
  • Drive team vision-setting in alignment with and support of global Fund Accounting and broader Oaktree mission and objectives, instilling a culture of excellence and innovation at all levels.

Qualifications

  • 17+ years of experience at an asset management company, investment bank or other financial services company
  • 8+ years of experience managing both operations and personnel
  • Deep knowledge of alternative investments, fund launches, complex structures, and hedged feeders
  • Extensive experience with Geneva and/or Geneva World Investor accounting systems
  • Exposure to alternative asset classes
  • Deep knowledge of reconciliation and account analysis
  • Strong project knowledge and able to design, implement and execute on projects
  • Excellent understanding of accounting, and the ability to apply relevant investment company accounting rules
  • Solid analytical skills and ability to understand and resolve complex problems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Outstanding communication skills to work cross-functionally and at all levels internally
  • Basic understanding of project management software such as Jira, Confluence a plus
  • Experience with data analysis tools like PowerBI a plus

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.  Chartered Accountant license and/or CFA/MBA finance a plus.
