The Manufacturing Supervisor provides leadership, direction, and support to assigned production teams within the custom cabinet shop. This role is responsible for ensuring daily and long-term production goals are met, maintaining adherence to quality standards, enforcing safety protocols, and facilitating continuous improvement initiatives. The Manufacturing Supervisor will foster a positive team environment by coaching, training, and developing employees while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and customer expectations.

Duties/Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Supervision:

  • Manage and supervise 13 plus employees within designated production areas (e.g., panel processing, specials, staging).
  • Provide clear direction, establish performance expectations, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Promote teamwork, resolve conflicts, and support the professional development of team members.
  • Model effective interpersonal communication and foster a respectful, inclusive work environment.

Production Oversight:

  • Oversee daily cabinet production operations, balancing staff, equipment, and materials to meet production schedules.
  • Monitor output to ensure products meet company quality standards and customer delivery timelines.
  • Actively manage workflow and resolve barriers to optimize throughput.

Quality & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all company quality standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Champion safe work practices and support ergonomic improvements on the shop floor.
  • Address nonconformance issues and initiate corrective actions where needed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead and participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen, 5S, process mapping, and workflow optimization.
  • Standardize work practices and encourage a culture of problem-solving and accountability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, scheduling, material handling, and peer supervisors) to resolve issues and improve efficiency.

Training & Development:

  • Facilitate onboarding and training for new employees, ensuring cross-training plans are in place to meet operational flexibility.
  • Support employees in learning new skills and adopting process improvements.
  • Develop training strategies to strengthen the team’s technical and operational capabilities.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate production records and reports. (SQDCP boards, daily production meetings, bi-weekly scorecard report outs, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with the Production Manager and Operations Staff regarding performance metrics, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Exhibit flexibility with scheduling to accommodate occasional training or production needs outside of normal shift hours.

Coordination With Production Manager:

  • Collaborate to align production schedules, manage workflow, and ensure timely delivery of assembled cabinets.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and ready for use.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional tasks as required to support departmental and organizational goals.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage people, schedules, and production processes effectively.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Woodworking, cabinetry, or related manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt is highly desirable.
  • Strong computer skills preferred (Microsoft office suite, ERP systems, etc.)  
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate wood components for quality and conformance
  • Understanding of inventory systems and materials management

Education And Formal Training:

  • High school diploma or GED required

Licenses Needed:

  • Tharp Forklift Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement preferred.

Equipment

  • All hand tools and power tools used in Tharp shop
  • CNC routers, beam saws, and stationary woodworking machinery

Physical Activities and Safety

  • Physical Demands: 75% standing, 25% walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and push a 300 lb. cart (with assistance).
  • Safety: Adhere strictly to company safety policies. Use all required PPE, including safety glasses and hearing protection. Machine guards must be used when required.
  • Health and Safety: Maintain a high standard of workplace safety when operating machinery, handling materials, and conducting inspections.
