Senior Scientist (all genders) Process Technologies & Protein Engineering 

As Senior Scientist (m/f/d) Process Technologies & Protein Engineering, you will drive innovation at the interface of chemistry, automation, and digital technologies. In this role, you will design and optimize cutting-edge chemical processes, leveraging automation, and catalyst screening to improve yield, safety, and sustainability. Join our interdisciplinary team and shape the future of process chemistry through data-driven decision-making and advanced protein engineering approaches.

Your Tasks And Responsibilities

  • You will plan, monitor and evaluate chemical experiments in close collaboration with laboratory personnel while ensuring compliance with safety standards
  • You will design experiments to screen and optimize reaction conditions, leveraging automation and AI-based tools to improve yield, quality, cost, patentability, sustainability and safety
  • Acting as a scientific expert for catalyst screening and reaction optimization will be part of your role, providing state-of-the-art knowledge
  • You will lead the development and implementation of the Closed Loop platform, focusing on iterative optimization and automation of reaction screening processes
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams – including process chemists, IT specialists and automation engineers – to integrate new technologies seamlessly
  • You will analyze and interpret experimental data, identify trends and drive data-based decisions
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation of experimental procedures, results and protocols will be among your tasks
  • You will present findings and progress updates to internal stakeholders and represent Bayer at external conferences and workshops

Who You Are

  • You hold a PhD in organic or metal-organic chemistry, digital chemistry, or a comparable scientific discipline
  • You have excellent knowledge of classical and modern synthetic methods, including the use of digital, automation and data science tools applied to chemistry
  • Proven experience in high-throughput screening, high pressure lab, automation, and integration of data science tools in a laboratory setting is part of your profile
  • You bring solid experience with Human-in-the-loop and Closed Loop systems
  • You stand out with effective and adaptable communication skills, building strong relationships across functions and contributing to interdisciplinary problem-solving
  • A high degree of commitment and the ability to take action for continuous improvement characterize you
  • You have strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse interfaces 
  • Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken, round off your profile
