The Global Regulatory Manager plays a vital role in ensuring compliance across the innovation, production, marketing, and sale of food, beverage, wine, and agricultural products worldwide. The Regulatory Team is part of the Wonderful legal team, a full-service law group with approximately 100 individuals that includes real estate, employment, intellectual property, transactional, education, and government affairs teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant and entrepreneurial company and work closely with in-house attorneys and partners across The Wonderful Company organization on meaningful projects that directly contribute to our businesses’ success. The Manager will navigate complex domestic and international regulatory frameworks and help determine regulatory strategy in product development, labeling, advertising, claim substantiation, food safety, and more.

This position will be based at our West Los Angeles, CA office. We work a hybrid schedule with an in-office requirement Monday-Wednesday and the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.

Job Description

  • Serve as a primary point-of-contact with our Brand and Innovation Teams on new product development initiatives. Assess regulatory requirements and offer business-minded solutions.
  • Review product labels (including nutrition facts, ingredient statements, front-of-pack (FOP) nutrition, and all claims) and advertising for U.S. and international regulatory compliance. Evaluate substantiation and scientific research, as needed.
  • Develop and present regulatory trainings to our business partners.  
  • Act as subject matter expert on emerging issues, such as FOP labeling, ultra-processed foods, PFAS, and microplastics. Communicate enforcement trends to Regulatory leadership. 
  • Conduct risk analyses and propose regulatory strategies to Regulatory leadership and cross-functional partners. 
  • Research FDA regulations regarding ingredients, flavorings, food contact substance approvals, GRAS, and more.
  • Evaluate and respond to compliance requests from B2B customers on Prop 65, PFAS, non-GMO, vegan, etc. 
  • Collaborate with our Government Affairs Team on pending legislation and emerging health policy issues, analyze potential business impacts, and draft comments. 
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives and programs around continuous improvement, automation, mentorship, wellness, philanthropy, professional development, and various team and relationship-building opportunities. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in domestic regulatory affairs within the food and beverage industry. Focus on juice, nuts, bottled water, and produce preferred. Wine experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FDA labeling laws and regulations, including nutrient content, structure function, and health claims.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Modernization Act regulations, global regulatory food law, quality, nutrition, food safety, advertising, and claim substantiation.
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, food science, or related discipline preferred.
  • Master's degree in food science, food safety, or food law is a plus.
  • Positive and self-starter attitude with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to communicate complex regulatory matters in clear, straightforward terms, with confidence in high-stakes settings.
  • Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and manage pushback effectively.
  • Strong judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong peer relationships and integrate seamlessly into an entrepreneurial organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).

Pay Range: $110,000 - $135,000 and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
