The Global Regulatory Affairs Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring compliance across the innovation, production, marketing, and sale of food, beverage, wine, and agricultural products worldwide. The Regulatory Team is part of the Wonderful legal team, a full-service law group with approximately 100 individuals that includes real estate, employment, intellectual property, transactional, education, and government affairs teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant and entrepreneurial company and work closely with in-house attorneys and partners across The Wonderful Company organization on meaningful projects that directly contribute to our businesses’ success. The Specialist will navigate complex domestic and international regulatory frameworks and help shape regulatory strategy in product development, labeling, advertising, claim substantiation, food safety, and more.

We work on sophisticated and novel issues and are looking for someone interested in developing their regulatory expertise with exciting opportunities to grow their career. The Regulatory team is highly regarded across our businesses as go-to thought partners and problem solvers.

This position will be based at our West Los Angeles, CA office. We work a hybrid schedule with an in-office requirement Monday-Wednesday and the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.

Job Description

  • Interface with our Brand and Innovation Teams on new product development initiatives, particularly as it relates to label claims, product names, nutrition information, and ingredient formulations.
  • Review product labels (including ingredient statements, nutrition facts, nutrient content claims, health claims, romance copy, and related substantiation) for U.S. (FDA) and international regulatory compliance from concept through final package development.
  • Assess regulatory requirements for product innovations and entry into new international markets. Coordinate with cross-functional partners to ensure accurate and timely execution.
  • Interpret and synthesize U.S. and international regulations and guidance documents related to labeling, nutrition, and claims for internal and external partners, with opportunities to deliver presentations and lead discussions on key regulatory topics.
  • Monitor and track domestic and international regulations, warning letters, enforcement trends, and other developments related to food labeling, nutrition, claims, and food safety.
  • Research, analyze, and summarize documents published by government agencies to support industry initiatives, comment submissions, and other regulatory strategies.
  • Review product inquiries and draft responses to customers and regulatory officials.
  • Maintain and organize substantiation and documentation to support label and product claims.
  • Develop and maintain compliance tools and resources (e.g., claim trackers, internal reference documents, ingredient spreadsheets, and checklists) by reviewing content and compiling data.
  • Maintain and update nutrition and ingredient information for U.S. and international products, such as confirming appropriate nutrient calculation methods by country and reviewing ingredient specification details against the relevant rules and regulations.
  • Collaborate with our Government Affairs Team on reviewing pending legislation and emerging government and health policy issues and their potential impact to the business.
  • Gain project management experience and support continuous improvement and data management initiatives within the Regulatory team and greater organization, including the development and maintenance of new processes to enhance efficiency, labeling checklists, brand reference guides, and SOPs.
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives and programs around mentorship, wellness, philanthropy, professional development, and various team and relationship-building opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years' experience in domestic regulatory affairs at a consumer-packaged goods company required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, food science or related discipline preferred.
  • Formal course work or seminars in labeling, claims, and food safety preferred.
  • Working knowledge of FDA labeling laws and regulations. International regulatory knowledge a plus.
  • Positive and self-starter attitude with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively within the Regulatory Team and with cross-functional partners in a high energy environment.
  • Solutions-oriented team player capable of providing business-minded regulatory advice. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate complex regulatory and scientific issues in simple terms.
  • Superb organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment and common sense.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire to excel and grow within the Regulatory team.
  • Adaptable to shifting priorities and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office Products (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).

Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000 and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
