Job Description
This role is responsible for defining, implementing, managing, and enforcing data quality standards, policies, and governance practices across the team and organization. The Data Quality and Governance Engineer plays a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, and reliability of the company's data assets. This individual will work collaboratively across teams to establish trust in data, support compliance requirements, and enable data-driven decision-making through robust governance frameworks and quality controls.
Here'S What You'Ll Be Doing:
- Develop, implement, and monitor data quality rules, metrics, and dashboards.
- Perform data profiling and analysis to identify data quality issues, anomalies, and root causes.
- Collaborate with data stewards, data owners, and technical teams to define data standards, policies, and procedures.
- Implement and manage data governance tools, including data catalogs, business glossaries, and data lineage solutions.
- Establish processes for data issue detection, reporting, tracking, and remediation.
- Support data privacy and compliance initiatives (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) by implementing required data handling and governance controls.
- Develop training materials and promote awareness of data quality and governance best practices throughout the organization.
- Maintain documentation related to data standards, policies, processes, and metadata.
- Work with data engineering and application teams to embed data quality checks into data pipelines and systems.
These objectives are not exhaustive and will evolve according to identified needs and current projects.
Qualifications
- Deep understanding of data quality dimensions (accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, validity, uniqueness).
- Expertise in data profiling and root cause analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in SQL for complex data querying and analysis.
- Hands-on experience with data quality and data cataloging tools.
- Knowledge of data governance principles, policies, and frameworks.
- Understanding of master data management (MDM) concepts is a plus.
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts.
- Awareness of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR).
- Experience working with various database systems and data warehouses.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Management, Data Science, or a related field.
- 3-5+ years of experience in data management, data analysis, data governance, or data quality roles.
- Proven experience with data profiling, data quality monitoring, and remediation techniques.
- Hands-on experience with data quality tools (e.g., Great Expectations) and data cataloging tools (e.g. Azure Purview).
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data analysis and manipulation. Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR).
- English or French Level: fluent
