Vector: Powering Auckland. Shaping the future.
Life at Vector means being part of something bigger.

We’re embracing opportunities to innovate, collaborating with leading names globally to develop, adopt and share cutting-edge technologies that drive energy sustainability and efficiency.
And while we shape the future, we prioritise yours. Enjoy a comprehensive salary and benefits package, hybrid working and flexibility with hours, and be part of a diverse, inclusive culture that values fresh thinking and career growth.
Culture that powers progress
Hear from our people on what they enjoy most about Vector, why they joined and why they stay.
The Role
As GM Governance & Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring Vector’s corporate governance is robust, future-focused, and enables our business objectives. Reporting to the Chief Legal & Assurance Officer, you’ll drive good governance across Vector, manage Vector’s company secretariat function, oversee board and committee programmes, and ensure Vector continues to meet its obligations and the high governance standards expected of a major listed issuer.
You’ll provide expert legal advice on governance, company secretarial, and corporate finance matters, manage legal compliance, manage Vector’s relationship with the NZX, FMA and other key governance stakeholders and support investor relations, keeping actively abreast of governance developments and trends in NZ and Australia.
This is a highly influential role, requiring you to drive a culture of excellence and innovation in governance and ESG, lead key projects and initiatives, and drive the highest standards of integrity and ethics. You’ll work collaboratively across Vector with a strong focus on our business objectives, supporting our Symphony strategy and helping shape a sustainable energy future for New Zealand.
Who are we looking for?
- You’re an experienced governance and legal professional, holding a Bachelor of Laws and a current New Zealand Practising Certificate, with at least 10 years’ relevant experience
- You bring exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with a proven ability to build productive relationships at all levels at Vector and key regulators and stakeholders
- You’re resilient, commercially-focused and thrive in complex, fast-changing environments
- You will have a curiosity to understand Vector’s business and energy sector operating environment, and demonstrate an awareness of the importance of this to success in the role
- Your strategic mindset, creativity, and results orientation set you apart, as does your commitment to integrity and ethical leadership
- You will have a track record of driving outcomes and preferring to work in the business rather than being seen as an advisor
- You are a strong team player, adept at managing internal and external key stakeholder relationships and reputation, and have a passion for driving change while balancing business needs
- You will embrace developments in technology and AI and actively apply to drive stronger governance outcomes
Why Vector?
We know that great energy starts with great people, and we’re committed to creating an environment where you can be, do and achieve your best:
- Enhance your wellbeing, protect your future and empower your personal and professional growth through our extensive benefits package
- Supercharge your career through internal opportunities, own your own development plan and drive your learning and growth
- Join a company embracing innovation and collaborating with leading names worldwide to develop and adopt cutting-edge technologies, like X The Moonshot Factory
- We value diverse perspectives, which drive innovation and creativity. We encourage everyone to bring their full selves to work, embracing ideas that challenge and inspire
- Build a legacy doing work that matters – we’re keeping the lights on across Auckland, and driving a sustainable energy future for New Zealand.
