Job Title: Mission Critical Division Manager - Mesa, Arizona

Job Purpose

The MCDM is responsible for managing and staffing the mission critical division appropriately including estimates, schedules, cost and quality of Dynalectric projects. This includes the planning and coordination of all aspects of the construction process, including field supervision management/coordination, hiring subcontractors, implementing cost control measures and internal reporting to provide excellent internal/external customer service.

Objective

The objective of this position is to maintain and execute current mission critical work, sustain, and grow customer base and overall operations of mission critical, and to grow the mission critical market sector.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manage and focus on project revenue between $5M to $80M with a team of 15 - 30 employees.
  • Plan, staff, and supervise all division activities including personnel administration, performance management, responsibilities, functions, etc.
  • Participate in estimate close-out and proposal creation. Create an estimate threshold with new customer/GC above which estimates must be closed out with AZDM. Review all tabs in Accubid and cover the questions in the bid analysis form, assess current backlog and apply proper mark- up.
  • Guide the WIP reports process for the department. Sit down with each PM as they do their WIP to assess their understanding of the information.
  • Assess workloads of PM’s, Project Engineers, Project Coordinators, and Project Admins by monitoring bid logs, committed logs, under billings, work hours, general well-being, and verbal check ins.
  • Schedule project kick-off & project close-out meetings to follow Dynalectric process.
  • Use Estimating Log for reporting.
  • Recommend cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining productivity and quality.
  • Provide field teams and supervision with the proper information and support throughout the duration of the project.
  • Actively participate in manpower dispatching/coordination with department management & field leadership.
  • Review and evaluate present and future opportunities, current and future strengths and weaknesses specific to mission critical opportunities and hard trends within the industry.
  • Request and select proposals from subcontractors, including contract negotiations.
  • Participate in contract review. Review for scope/accuracy and work with Contracts department to process.
  • Work with Training Manager to ensure all relevant training is in compliance (ask questions during quarterly performance check-ups to address training. Check in with training manager to review training records of employees.)
  • Ensure adherence to company health and safety standards (communicate with site safety professional/superintendent, report issues as needed to corporate Safety Director or General Superintendent)
  • Ensure company policies and processes are being followed within the division (introduce and roll out standardization for estimating and document control, review process flow charts with team, and ensure the flow charts are being followed).
  • Execute company HR processes (participate in semi-annual reviews coaching/counseling feedback)
  • Attend internal Dynalectric meetings (Prefab, QA/QC, Safety, monthly department meetings)
  • Keep ADM, COO, CFO, and CEO updated on personnel and the financial performance of the division.
  • Work closely with the AZ General Operations Superintendent to ensure adequate field leadership and staffing is in place, Dynalectric company field standards, craftmanship and best practices are being met.
  • Participate in job walks with Project Management, field supervision and Operations Superintendent to identify challenges and areas of improvement.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience as a project manager within the electrical industry or a minimum of 10 years as a GF or Field Superintendent.
  • Must have 10 years of estimating experience in the electrical industry.
  • BSc/BA in construction management or related discipline preferred.
  • Prior experience in managing project teams and assigning team members based on their experience and needs of the project.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical construction and materials.
  • Proficiency or knowledge of estimating software - Accubid preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite - especially Excel.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam preferred.
  • Outstanding written & verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Must have valid driver license/insurance and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions

Both field and office based. Typical working hours for a MCDM may vary. Generally, Monday – Friday during normal business hours, but when deadlines approach, they may be asked to work longer hours. Some travel may be required for training/continuing education.

While performing the duties of this job, the MCDM may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; may be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites (weather, noise, etc.).

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Mission Critical Division Manager to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The MCDM is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Direct Reports

The MCDM may oversee Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers, Estimators, and Project Coordinators. The MCDM may also work with Operation Superintendent, General Foreman, and Site Superintendents.
