Job Title: Offsite Construction Manager - Mesa, Arizona
Job Overview
Reporting to the Fabrication and Offsite Construction Director, the Offsite Construction Manager (OCM) will oversee all major operations related to Dynalectric’s offsite construction efforts and be a critical member of our management team as they guide the growth of people, operations, initiatives, and technology in and through this branch of the company to support our project sites and customers through cost effective practices.
Key Objectives
The key objectives of this position are to provide strategic oversight, planning, and direction for the growing Offsite Construction (a.k.a. Prefabrication) work occurring in and through our Arizona branch.
Duties And Responsibilities
A component of Dynalectric’s strategic vision is to drive our existing construction success further forward by continuing to leverage Offsite Construction in an unprecedented way. The management and growth of our Offsite Construction division is a key element in accomplishing this vision.
The Offsite Construction Manager must actively participate in investigating, strategizing, and developing solutions for the company alongside their reports that advance both operating efficiency and ease of work by which Offsite Construction processes are accomplished. Promoting and supporting continuous improvement company-wide is a non-negotiable responsibility within this role.
Falling under the OCM’s direct oversight:
Offsite Construction
- Ensure collaboration between departments to maximize Offsite Construction use.
- Champion the value and benefits of preconstruction planning and offsite construction.
- Ensure quality control processes are documented and followed by the Offsite Construction team.
- Ensure that standardization is continuously pursued in word and practice.
- Support development of data tracking processes and metrics.
- Remain involved in planning, staffing, and scheduling efforts to support and level workload.
- Recommend cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining productivity and quality.
- Work with Operations Superintendent and project leadership to ensure all offsite construction opportunities are being explored and implemented.
- Work with Training Manager to develop Offsite Construction specific training.
- Create and maintain file structures for the entire team’s use
- Collaborate on spacial planning and work flows to increase efficiency
Requiring coordination and communication between OCM & Logistics Manager
Warehouse
- Work with the Logistics Manager to track and deploy all prefabrication requests.
- Ensure processes are established for clear communication between Offsite Construction and S&R.
- Ensure clear communication is established between Warehouse team, purchasing, field, and management.
- Review and manage offsite construction related capital expenditures.
- Plan and support the operational growth and expansion efforts related to offsite construction.
Additional points of accountability include, but are not limited to:
- Keep ADM, DFOC updated on personnel and financial performance of division.
- Ensure certifications and compliance classifications required to carry out all scopes of work in the shop are understood, obtained, and maintained.
- Document Dynalectric’s long-term and short-term goals as they pertain to Offsite Construction.
- Document development priorities and implementation timelines for growth initiatives.
- Research, understand, and advise on relevant technologies and processes to support Dynalectric’s growing OC operations.
- Develop phased plans, budgets, and labor requirements for OC equipment and process implementations and improvements.
- Establish, document, and communicate clear roles and responsibilities for direct reports.
- Delegate projects and tasks to direct reports.
- Ensure facility QAQC compliance standards are understood, obtained, and maintained.
- Cultivate a culture of safety, transparency, and accountability.
- Refine communication methods and quality between OC, sites, and warehouse.
- Confirm shop labor forecasting and field needs are in concert & help Managers resolve if not.
- Meet regularly with direct reports and serve to support each in their professional development while removing roadblocks for them.
- Ensure that tools are in place for each report to succeed in their stated points of accountability. If they are not, communicate your expectations while taking the needed steps to provide them.
- Support each team member in identifying, pursuing, and achieving strategic quarterly goals.
- Commit to pursue and achieve strategic quarterly goals agreed upon with the MOCD.
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of experience in the electrical construction industry is required.
- Direct experience managing electrical prefabrication preferred.
- IBEW wireman with experience in Foreman, General Foreman, or Superintendent roles preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
- Experience establishing ground-up Offsite Construction activities preferred.
- Technical literacy in use of computers and digital management platforms.
- Thorough understanding of NEC standards and means and methods of electrical construction.
- Ability to set long-term goals, communicate them to others, and pursue them to completion.
- Ability to motivate and organize multiple efforts to accomplish goals.
- Must have valid driver license/insurance and reliable transportation.
- Professional verbal and interpersonal communication skills are critical and non-negotiable.
Working Conditions
Mostly office based. Typical working hours for the OCM may vary. Generally, Monday – Friday during normal business hours, but when deadlines approach, they may be required to work much longer hours, including some weekend work. May be required to work out of the office and sometimes to stay away from home for short to long periods of time. Consistent travel to jobsites will be required and occasional travel for training/continuing education.
While performing the duties of this job, the OCM may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration; may be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites (weather, noise, etc.).
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the OCM to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The OCM is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
