The Purpose of this Position at Trainline👋

Lead Trainline’s Rail and Payments Fraud Data Team, shaping the strategy and vision that strengthens our revenue controls and supports industry-wide improvements. You’ll drive the development of actionable insights, deliver enhanced reporting for both internal and external stakeholders, and champion greater automation across the Payments & Fraud function. As a hands-on leader, you’ll oversee the day-to-day running and growth of the team, while setting a clear roadmap that ensures Trainline remains at the forefront of fraud prevention and payments innovation.

As the Senior Manager for this team at Trainline, you will… 🚄

  • Lead and mentor a team of Fraud and Payments Data Analysts, fostering a strong data-driven culture.
  • Define and deliver a clear roadmap for fraud and abuse analytics and reporting.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure fraud data strategies align with wider business goals.
  • Define and track key fraud, loss, and recovery metrics.
  • Spot trends and anomalies to proactively mitigate risk.
  • Enhance internal and external fraud reporting, ensuring it is accurate, timely, and accessible.
  • Automate dashboards and reporting tools to streamline analysis.
  • Partner with engineering teams to strengthen data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Work closely with Fraud, Finance, and Product teams to advance fraud prevention initiatives.
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear and impactful way.
  • Identify and act on opportunities from emerging data trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy standards.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or similar data analysis tools for analytics and visualization.
  • An understanding of predictive modeling, clustering, and classification techniques for fraud analytics.
  • Experience using BI and reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI to create dashboards and reports.
  • Some familiarity with data pipelines and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or Google BigQuery).
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing data insights team.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with fraud, finance, product, and engineering teams.
  • Experience managing multiple data projects with timely delivery.
  • A strategic mindset to align fraud and revenue protection analytics with wider business goals.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, PCI DSS, and PSD2, or similar fraud/data compliance requirements.
  • Experience in identifying and mitigating revenue leakage through fraud analytics.
  • A strong problem-solving and analytical mindset.
  • The ability to present complex data insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail when analysing large datasets to detect fraudulent activity.
