Role Overview

At Coupang, we invest in providing the best product experience for our customers. The Global Operations Technology team’s mission is to provide the best possible technical solution to achieve the optimal experience for our customers. We innovate in supply chain, post purchase and fraud detection systems by leveraging the capabilities of AI, ML and NLP. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about customer experience and want to work on cutting edge technology, that is the intersection of NLP, LLM, ML and software engineering at scale.

What You Will Do

• Architect and design large scale inference, recommendation and interactive agents’ system that are self-learning
• Design/architect/work on large language model-based agent systems
• Develop and customize/tune deep learning generative models, deep learning models for multi-modal for eCommerce customer scenarios
• Train foundational models that can help with building learning systems
• Define process and experiments for an E2E foundation model
• Refine agent and model training using RAG
• Build E2E AI pipelines for storing/servicing foundational models
• Mentor and guide team members on frameworks, methodologies related to LLMs, RAGs and their limitations, semantic web, reinforcement learning
• Ensure Model training is security, compliance aware
• Collaborate with cross-team members to understand the requirements ensuring the foundational models, knowledge captured aligns with the company’s overall AI strategy

Basic Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 3+ years of demonstrated experience building large-scale foundational models and models for eCommerce scenarios.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.
• Expertise in fine-tuning and deploying large language models.
• Strong background in transformer architectures.
• Understanding of RAG and its limitations in multi-modal knowledge retrieval.
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, Spark, and BigQuery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with inference platforms in AWS, Azure and other open-source platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills
• Hands on experience with Large language models, NLP, and Machine Learning at scale

Type of work model : Hybrid

Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
