Position Summary:
The student research assistant should be a graduate student in one of the following academic disciplines or equivalent: bioethics/ ethics, law, sociology, data science, political science, and/or public health. The candidate should be prepared to assist with all stages of research including: ethics submission, participant recruitment, data collection (e.g. literature reviews, surveys, interviews, focus groups), data analysis, and the drafting, copy-editing and source-checking of submissions to high impact peer reviewed law, bioethics, social scientific and scientific journals.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in research
- Experience with data analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative) and relevant software (e.g. Excel, SPSS, NVivo).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexibility for working on interdisciplinary projects.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work in a team and be comfortable engaging with people in-person.
- This is an in-person position.
- Proficient in English and beginners French.
Assets:
- Training in qualitative research methods.
- Relevant experience in conducting empirical qualitative fieldwork including interviews, surveys, and/or focus groups.
- Proficiency with qualitative coding/analysis and relevant software (e.g. NVivo, Lime).
- Familiarity with EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusion) considerations in research design and implementation.
- Health policy experience.
McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #4 on a scale of 0-4.
