Reporting to the Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, this position works within a technical team accountable for the asset integrity management of pressure equipment, piping, and storage tanks within the Upstream Thermal and Oil Sands business unit. The individual will work closely with diverse partners including Operations, Facilities Engineering, Capital Projects, and the In-Service Inspection team to ensure effective management of facility integrity. This role plays a key part in supporting safe, reliable, and sustainable operations through expert collaboration and technical insight.
What You’Ll Do:
- Provide mechanical expertise to support upstream CTCHO operations
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, inspection, and project teams to address equipment issues and recommend appropriate repairs or alterations
- Lead or assist in risk assessments, failure investigations, audits, engineering evaluations, and root cause analyses
- Perform fitness-for-service assessments and Remaining Life Studies to evaluate equipment condition and remaining lifespan
- Develop risk-based, fit-for-purpose strategies to optimize asset safety and performance
- Identify and facilitate the implementation of operational improvements related to equipment reliability
- Advise major projects on design basis, material selection, and durability considerations
- Maintain programs, processes, procedures, and technical standards associated with asset management
- Participate in industry associations and workgroups to contribute expertise and remain current with industry standards and innovations.
Who You Are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field
- Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in the Thermal/SAGD oil and gas industry
- Licensed Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Canada, with eligibility to be registered with APEGA
- Strong knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including ASME, CSA, ASTM, API, Alberta Safety Codes Act, and Pressure Equipment Safety Regulations
- Proven ability to apply risk-based and reliability-centered engineering methods to complex technical challenges
- Experience in defect assessment, evaluation, and repair of pipelines, pressure vessels, piping, and tanks, incorporating corrosion control, integrity programs, and non-destructive testing techniques
