Role Summary
The Head of AI Risk Governance, Managing Director, will lead the AI risk governance function from a second line perspective at State Street within Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust governance framework for AI risk, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations, and providing oversight and challenge to first line AI risk activities. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives and enhance the firm’s AI risk posture.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive AI risk governance framework aligned with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.
- Provide governance leadership and oversight to the Generative AI Risk Oversight Working Group (AROW), ensuring second line oversight of AI risk governance activities, including use case review, policy compliance, and escalation of novel Gen AI risks to senior governance bodies
- Provide second line oversight and challenge to AI risk management activities conducted by the first line.
- Lead the development of policies, procedures, and standards for AI risk governance.
- Monitor and report on AI risk exposures and control effectiveness across the enterprise.
- Support internal and external audits and regulatory examinations related to AI risk.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across business units, legal entities, and technology teams to ensure effective AI risk governance.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in AI risk governance practices.
- Represent the firm in industry forums and regulatory engagements related to AI risk.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of proven experience in risk management, governance, or compliance, preferably in AI or technology domains.
- Strong understanding of AI technologies, associated risks, and regulatory landscape.
- Demonstrated leadership experience at a senior level within financial services or a related industry.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field such as Risk Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or Business Administration.
Reporting Structure
This role reports to the Head of Model Risk Management and will work closely with senior leaders across the enterprise risk management and compliance functions.

Salary Range:
$170,000 - $282,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
