At Stora Enso, we are continuously working to improve our cost position and workplace safety to ensure long-term business sustainability. As part of this effort, we are offering a master thesis opportunity focused on identifying realistic, profitable automation opportunities in our production sites.

Innovate for a better climate. Every day.

This project aims to explore how automation can reduce manual work and enhance safety, ergonomics and efficiency in selected strategic sites. You will investigate current practices, benchmark best-in-class solutions and help us accelerate our continuous improvement efforts.

Your Mission

  • Identify opportunities to automate unsafe or ergonomically challenging tasks
  • Explore automation or optimization of raw material and semi-finished goods deliveries and handling
  • Investigate automation or optimization of waste handling at the production line
  • Analyze current continuous improvement processes and identify obstacles slowing down progress
  • Provide actionable recommendations to improve efficiency and safety through automation

You will work closely with the Packaging Solutions Operational Excellence Team to understand current processes. The project includes site visits to selected production sites, where you will focus on identifying improvement opportunities. You will also benchmark best practices in automation within Stora Enso and other industries through literature review and, if possible, reference interviews.

For this position, you can plan your time and work flexibly from home or one of our offices, with additional visits to our factories as part of the project.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a strategic transformation while gaining hands-on experience in operational analysis, benchmarking and industrial productivity. After agreement with your university supervisor, the project scope and design will be tailored to suit your academic requirements, your interests and Stora Enso’s goals. We encourage you to apply as a thesis pair for optimal support and impact. You will belong to the Packaging Solutions business area. The project will be executed during the spring semester 2026, from January to June and therefor consists of 30 HP (Swedish university credits).
