About the role

MEC is a growing technical consultancy operating within the mining and resources sector. We are seeking an experienced Senior In-House Legal Counsel to join the team in a part-time capacity.

This is a newly created standalone role, and you will be the sole legal counsel in the business. We are looking for someone confident in their expertise, who can not only respond to legal issues but also proactively guide us on what we need to know and do to manage risk while enabling growth.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including client contracts and service agreements.
  • Providing strategic legal advice on contracts, governance, and risk management.
  • Developing and maintaining contract templates and guidance notes for stakeholders.
  • Advising on high-level HR matters where required.
  • Maintaining appropriate records of legal advice, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Liaising with external legal advisors where specialist expertise is required.
  • Drafting correspondence for the CEO, CFO, and Board as requested

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 7 years post admission experience in commercial/corporate law, with exposure to employment law.
  • Experience in the mining or resources sectors desirable.
  • Previous in-house experience in a commercial or consultancy environment.
  • High level organisation and time management skills with demonstrated ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and manage competing priorities
  • Commercially minded with a balanced approach to risk.
  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused, and adaptable.
  • Collaborative, approachable, and able to influence without jargon.
  • High integrity and professional judgment.
