Join a high performing team contributing to the RBA's role in financial stability
Build your analytical skills and understanding of risks in the global financial system, in an environment invested in your professional development
Permanent opportunity with hybrid working arrangements
Your Team
A stable financial system is crucial to the welfare of the Australian people. Financial Stability Department advises the RBA Governors, Board and Council of Financial Regulators on risks to the stability of the financial system and produces the Financial Stability Review.
You will join the Policy & International (P&I) team, which works to enhance the RBA’s understanding of financial stability risks and lessons from overseas, contributes to the international policy debate, and leads the development and maintenance of frameworks for financial stability policy advice and analysis. In a rapidly evolving international landscape, the team leverages insights from advanced overseas economies and international policy to inform domestic policy and the assessment of financial stability in Australia.
Your Role
You will play a key role in the RBA’s work to contribute to financial stability. You will lead and collaborate on projects supporting the RBA’s work on financial stability, work closely with your manager to shape your team’s work program, and coach more junior staff as appropriate. You will also help deliver high-quality policy advice to the Bank’s executive and the Board, which is especially important during stress events overseas and as the lessons are drawn afterwards.
Working in P&I offers an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of risks in the international financial system, and to play a part in bringing insight from the international context to domestic analysis. You will have opportunities to use and develop your strong analytical skills, while answering fascinating questions that help shape our assessment and policy. You will also work closely with other sections within the Department, other areas across the Bank and other government agencies.
Your Role Will Include:
- analysing and interpreting a broad array of data and information to develop insights on the links between different parts of the global financial system
- identifying and assessing systemic risks and vulnerabilities in the global financial system, while monitoring possible spillovers to financial stability in Australia
- briefing the RBA’s senior executive, including to support the RBA’s contribution to the work of international regulatory bodies
- undertaking analysis and providing advice on how climate change and the energy transition might affect the global financial system
- developing your thought leadership and problem-solving skills.
Your Background
We are looking for a motivated and engaged analyst at a senior or lead level of experience, with a strong interest in policy-relevant work in a collaborative environment. To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Strong critical thinking and technical skills, including experience in data analysis.
- The ability to work effectively in a team, collaborate productively with a broad range of stakeholders, and to work independently as required.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
- A degree in Economics, Finance, or a related field, preferably an honours degree or higher.
- Previous experience in the monitoring and analysis of economic and or financial system developments - and the ability to apply this to climate-related issues - is desirable, but not a prerequisite for the role.
